the ideal opening combination, one series flop and these two were no where now, thanks to the selection bias. chopra might have been ideal no.1 with gambhir no.2, jaffar at 3, pujara at 4, badrinath/kohli 5, sehwag 6, saha 7, zaheer 8, ashwin 9, yadav 10, varon aaron / munaf patel 11, but now its too late for chopra and jaffar, better we go with rahane and gambhir. Chopra is a very intelligent cricketer, he could have survived the test. But he was sacrified the team needed brisk scorer, what a pity for the indian test think tank.
This is why we fail everywhere else. Our guys keep on scoring great on absolutely useless pitches and when there is swing and bounce, they fall like 10-pin. If BCCI is interested in really improving our team, perhaps they should start by investing in preparing better pitches

politics played in his life.. He s a better opener. he won't throw his wicket away easily.. he frustrated lot of bowlers even in 2003 aus tour by his defensive mode
Aakash should have been on the plane to Aus. He did very well during the 2003-04 series. The defensive technique of Aakash & the explosive shots of Viru were the right combination

unfortunately they bat at different ends ... would have been great if one could play the defensive shot and one the offensive shot at will..
