by Venugopalan on Jan 16, 2012 11:29 AM

in short it was an aLROUnd failure..batting, bowling and fielding...first of all sehwag should be replaced..so also dravid n laxman should be replaced with rohit and ajinkya..yadav is only fast bowler who performed...shreeshant should be recalled..at least he can bowl well..

bowlers

Looking at what clarke and co had said earlier after winning MCG test. He had said that our bowlers are sticking to 1 line and not allowing indian batsmen to score runs. This is preventing them from playing strokes and play across which is helping them get wickets. Morever I feel its not our batsmen to blame but its the aussie bowlers bowling in the right areas all the time. Thanks to Mc dermott. Mayb he did put a condition on aussie bowlers to get get tied upside down for bowling badly.

WHAT'S WRO NG WITH OUR TEST TEAM
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jan 16, 2012 09:57 AM

Unfortunately, too much ODI and T20 and esp IPL (tamasha cricket with lots of money) have made our batsman play unorthodox strokes and technique and long innings temperament is not there. Best examples of such players are Sehwag, DHoni, Yuvaraj, Raina. Luckily with perseverance, Kohli has learnt to play test cricket. Also even our senior batsman like Dravid and Sachin seem to try to deflect a straight ball to the leg as is done in ODI instead of playing with a straight bat and get bowled or LBW. As one grows older, one's reaction time slows down and on quicker wickets, such batsman fall easy prey. Laxman is a good example of why he may succeeded in the past but has failed now. We need to phase out Sehwag (from Test Cricket) as well as Laxman almost immediately. We need not axe Sachin or Dravid as yet but allow them to realise when they should quit as both have shown grit and commitment. Zaheer is another one who should decide when he cannot take the strain of Test Cricket. Dhoni has to adjust his technique for Test Cricket. We need to induct Rohit Sharma, better openers like Rahane and Mukund, Manoj Tiwari and Pujara. They should be conditioned to play Test Cricket. We also need to develop a wicket keeper who can bat. Umesh Yadav has proved to be good find.We need to train our pacers to bowl the correct line and length. We need a real good swing bowler. I am sure India could easily get back to the top with such changes in the next two years.

we should "read between the lines" in this pathetic defeats. the concerned powerful people in Indian Cricket have devised this ploy of easing out "old/senior/unwanted" players. a couple of test series have been sacrificed for this. remember the inaugural T20 world cup ?? what say ???

Why not Dhoni retire and take rest.
BCCI should assure him to still continue playing IPL

Question is not that team has not batted to potential but why they have not. If there is batting collapse in one inning one can understand but not in all innings. Means there is basic problem.
Gautam was quoted as best opening batsman since Gavaskar based on his exploit on Indian pitches. But became zero in England and Aust.
Dravid and Laxman reflexes are slow proof the way dravid is getting bowled and vvs is late. Dhoni averages 23 outside subcontinent that too because he scored century against lowly WI else his average is below 20. Can you call him batsman. Veru is unpredictable. Sachin too much bogged down by his 100th 100 although he won't accept that in public but that monkey is preventing him from score big century. Now we are left with tail and its not wagging at all. Point is VVS, Dravid, Gautam, Dhoni should be shown door now. Give sachin one more series if he doesn't perform ask him to leave respectfully. Replacement - cheteshwar, rohit, saha (we will chance to see him 4th test), manoj tewari. but still we have opening pair problem.

Sack VVS , Dravid

I have not seen such defensive batting in a long time. Players should have attacked by stepping out.

Staying rooted to the crease made them candidates for LBW or bowled or caught behind.

for treating these mortals as the greatest icon ever and for viewing the IPL which made them take country's job taken for granted. Let's stop viewing IPL.
BTW, my new fav. sport is 'Go Karting'.
