Mental toughness and the area of sports psychology ---
by Nikhil Shah on Jan 16, 2012 04:28 AM  | Hide replies

Having lost 7 Tests in the row outside India and NZ ability to draw the series recently, India needs to look in the area of sports psychology and the mental toughness required in such situations.

The mental edge was not present and some areas of such as : motivation, self-belief, confidence and composure under pressure was not prevalent. The seniors have not any trouble over the years. Sehwag and Gambhir have to able to score and give India the starts even outside India, but there could be another problem India could be probably facing:

Team cohesion and Social cohesion

If the players don't like each other the rift between players can affect team dynamics. The problem the team suffered was task cohesion and social cohesion. Social cohesion is when team members get along towards a common goal and cohesive tasks is collective effort by team members. Another problem was burnout, which results in boredom, over-training and injuries. The expectations from millions of fans and the media could result in burn-out. This could cause emotional exhaustion, de-personalization and reduced sense of accomplishment. The hectic schedules by the BCCI can be the reason for this and the players seems to have addressed

All these issues cannot be handled overnight and trying to improve the mental advantage is one area of weakness the Indians can address.
The question is whether the senior players have to go through this routine now which is too late. But coaches in the future can work on it

sounds good to advice others to get Mental strength blah blah etc
==============================
Boss it is not mental strength
AUSSIES this time ,prepared Bouncy tracks compared to 2008 or 2003 series and did their home work well to extract revenge as well

Having said that
===============
it is improvement in batting technique

how to attack pace and swing ?
Front foot or Back foot or combination ?

how to play defensive shot and not open face of the bat as most are edged catched etc ?

practise more if possible with Bowling Machines and employ hotspot tech and review one own batting etc ?
-----
seriously every time just say mental strength etc ? I do not think so
Context is different this time boss

Permanent Solution for a temporary Problem
by Mohan Rao on Jan 16, 2012 12:58 AM  | Hide replies

Here are the BCCIs immediate permanent solutions for temporary problems faced by Indian Team:
1. Ban all the foreign tours of India, if a minimum number are to be played as mandated by ICC, then India should go to only Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, WI and play all the matches with them only
2. Ban the test series format because India is not winning. I challenge this, see after 3-4 years BCCI gradually convinces/influences ICC at least to reduce number of test matches played.
3. As an immediate ointment to sentiments of foolish India crowd that are apparently hurt by this tour, organize a foreign tour with BD/Zim/WI and if by chance they are winning the matches, bribe them to loose.
4. Put restrictions on fast bowling, no bowler would be allowed to bowl running. They should stand where they are, just before the crease and throw the ball just like in base ball. This is because Indian batsman cannot face fast bowing.
5. If rule 4 fails, I mean if still some innovative foreigner bowls a speed ball by increased rotation of their arm, put a restriction on the number of rotations of hand the bowler makes before delivering the ball.(Arm rotation like one shown in movie Lagaan).

Contd.......

6. Allow the batsman to increase the width of the bat 3 times, so that they can stand covering all the wickets with their back towards wickets and hit the ball easily.
7. Increase the number of runs scored by batsman like 8, 10, 12, 14 depending upon the number of yards the ball falls away from boundary line. This way, they can keep Indian mad crowds busy with calculating the records broken. After all this is what they want.
8. Buy ICC in an auction just like the way they are buying IPL teams so that they can easily change rules if all of the above fails.
9. Reduce the number of one day matches played as India will not be winning any big tournaments out side India.
10. Make sure that Indian crowds who have a very short memory satisfied with huge scores in IPL so that they can maintain a well-established cash-flow for the years to come.

WHat ever you have mentioned is very true, but you have forgotten to mention one most important T&C.................****These are applicable only on flat pitches of India***************
None of them you have mention can play a game lasting more than 3 hours(IPL).

sachin so much obsessed with his records
by vinay on Jan 15, 2012 11:02 PM  | Hide replies

sachin has been so much obsessed with his own records that he himself forgets n make others forget the fact that 99 centuries itself is a record.

n in the foolish obsession, ppl n he himself r carried away n even afer playing for 23 long years, he is playing for more n more money n individual records.

Actually Sachin had several occassions to save India and get his 100th ton as well. He is waiting for the right pitch perhaps.

3rd Test Report Card
by abc_xyz abc_xyz on Jan 15, 2012 10:09 PM

Sehwag --> 0 /10 ( Needs some basic education on how to bat in test matches)
Gambhir --> 0/10 ( Batted some sense this time in the 1st Inn...still not fit as an opener)
Dravid --> 1/10 ( The wall is starting to break..urgent repair reqd unless things go out of control)
Tendulkar --> 0/10 ( Though didnt score anything this time, can't imagine a test line-up without him. Still the best batsmen on the tour)
Laxman --> 0/10 ( May not play for India again)
kohli --> 3/10 ( Finally got something against his name ..can be groomed for the future)
Dhoni --> 0/10 ( the only reason he is there in the team is because he is the captain. otherwise he is a big liability in the team)
Vinay --> 0/10 ( bad test debut in the best conditions for a pace bowler..no future)
Zaheer --> 1/10 ( was ok with the ball, complete ZERO with the bat)
Ishant --> 0/10 ( needs to review basics of bowling on fast tracks, will be in the team as we have no other option)
Umesh --> 5/10 ( excellent bowling on day 2, should control leaking too many runs. Only bright spot in this otherwise forgettable test match)
