They are self styled or are creation of the media.

Ganguly was acceptable as a captain for two reasons - he dared to look at the opposition in their eye and groomed youngsters of his time. In his role as expert on the game in media, I just do not bother to see or hear him. Much the same for Kapil Dev. What to talk of lesser mortals like Gavaskar, Kirti Azad, Vengsarkar, Srikkanth, Bishen Bedi etc.

The tour was destined to be a disaster, because BCCI is adamant in being adamant. BCCI may be financially well off now. People at the helm in BCCI should read and re-read the story of the goose laying golden eggs till its moral registers in their mind for necessary action.

As for the current team, one suspects that there are fissures. Yesterday, Viru gave catching practice to the slip fielder and must have been delighted that the catch was indeed taken. Gambhir has become haughty since he became captain of KKR and was made stop gap captain in ODIs for India.

Dravid is over the hill, Laxman is absolutely of no use to the team when he does not do the only thing he knows or given chance to - batting in tests.

I do not want to create a controversy by talking about demigods.

Time for BCCI to:

- Reduce the number of series and matches
- Reduce the playing days of each player by proper rotation
- Axe the deadwood
- Give chances to youngsters to establish themselves instead of following select -warm bench or play one or two matches - drop like hot potato policy

- Continue to repose faith in the undisputable No.1 among all Indian captains in the history of Indian cricket - Dhoni

- Groom Virat Kohli in the game and in leadership under Dhoni to make him captain sometime in 2015-16.

One more suggestion for BCCI ---- Stop this IPL madness and concentrate on real cricket if it wants to improve the quality of Indian cricket

The whole indian media is after Dravid who was top scorer in last calendar year.also laxman(perhaps Laxman case is valid)
But no one has questioned Sachin
Sachin is also 39, in Eng he was poor except a 91 in last inn.His reflexes has gone down nad scoring just because of experience but no big runs.
Dravid scored 6 hundreds last year , may be he will leave after this series, then so should sachin

absolutely.. Tendulkar becos of his talen will keep scoring runs.. but they will not have any bearing on the end-result of the match..no use having him score meaningless centuries, when the match is done and dusted..Its not easy to replace the holy trinity.. but we dont have an option.. but blood youngsters and give them exposure

when zaheer instigated, did he expect punch on india team face
by D S on Jan 14, 2012 06:55 AM

Zaheer instigated with a whole lot of hot words, dont know what was his purpose when he did not have a plan to bring Auzzie batting down.

then we hear,

"Don't know why people are after me: Kohli".
Because you have great connections with dhoni/selectors like gambhir and bhaji-yuvi used to have. thus you deny chance to someone who did better than you even in WI.
you also copy cat things that are unsuitable for your height and thus ....

YOU ARE SORT OF CARTEL member LIKE MMS is. who cares where nation goes.

against wch ranji team r u selecting the squad ? Justify why u need irfan, saha, mukund, raina and ishant in the team...in these the bowlers cannot bowl on flat tracks and the batsman cannot bat apart from flat tracks

Gavaskar's comment
by Sceptic Critic on Jan 14, 2012 06:14 AM

The former Indian skipper is absolutely correct. They need to drop Sehwag and Tendulkar for ever. These two have performed very poorly and once in a blue moon they do well. As for Sehwag, he is utterly immature and needs to learn how to play cricket. His motto "Hit out or get out" really destroys India's chances of winning matches.

Domestic circuit has vast talent
by Michael on Jan 14, 2012 05:49 AM  | Hide replies

Now that TN is on the verge of winning the Ranji trophy, few players should be emerging the batting position. Abhinav Mukund deserves a chance as a opener and Gambhir needs to be given a break. Similarly for Dravid's a and Laxman's position some other youngster should be considered.
