Well said Yuvi, right point made by recognizing Kumble's character! Hope what you said comes true and India wins the test.

Tough out there

If it is a fast wicket, we are in for real hard time. Look at SL against SA. Time takes own course. When stars are pushing forty, it is like asking Sampras to dust his racket to play Joker or Roger. Sadly, the truth is we are showing true potential against quality fast bowling on fast wickets. But if they play on our feather beds, well, we can turn the tables, and even Dada can be brought back!

There are only two genuine BIGs!
by gerry ambrose on Jan 12, 2012 06:10 AM  | Hide replies

Everyone seems to be confused about BIG 3 and BIG 4 etc. Ever since Ganguly left, there are only TWO BIGs - Sachin the greatest and Rahul Dravid the second greatest. Please dont insult these two by including Sehwag and Laxman in the same league. Just bcos they have scored triple hundreds like a flash in a pan doesnt entitle them to become BIG. Truly speaking BIG is about how long you have been a great/greatest player. Sachin and Dravid have played for two decades and teams havent still figured out any real chinks in their armour. Teams wait for these two cricketers to make mistakes. That is the measure of true greatness. Others can just aspire in bits and pieces.

Agreed with you to some extent. But how can you ignore Sehwags records of two triple hundreds in tests and one double in ODI. More than 8000 runs with strike rate of 82 in tests and 102 in ODIs. Two hundreds in Aus soil, one at England, three at NZ, one at SA and one at WI. After 94 tests, average of 52 etc. Only Sachin, Dravid and Gavaskar are ahead of him. In last 20 yeras India has done well in Aus only twice in 2002-03 & 2007-08 when Sehwag scored heavily. All the current greats ride on his shoulder. If he succeeds the team wins.So you are right that he can not be compared with Sachin or Dravid but he is BIG player no doubt.

Correct Mukesh, IF Sehwag plays well India can boast of atleast 80% chance of winning.

Bang on Gerry. Sehwag is not great , doesnt play under pressure or quality bowlers & pitches. Laxman is a good player not great and so was Ganguly, but ganguly was more spirited than any of them including sachin, rahul laxman and sehwag and it was this quality that made india a hard team mentaly...post 96... However point well taken, refreshing to see close readers of the game like you. kudos !!

Sachin, Dravid, VVS, Sehwag, Gambhir and Dhoni -- all will have big innings. Sehwag will teach Australian pacers some good lesson. All that needs to happen is for Dhoni to win the toss and send Australia to bat.

Gurjot, we had won the toss in Sydney. But Dhoni chose to bat first! By the time Aussies came out, it turned out to be a flat wicket!

Sachin early dismissal can also help
by Chandran KR on Jan 11, 2012 11:10 PM  | Hide replies

Anyone clicks or not, Sachin should not click. If he is in mind to reach is 100th ton then we should expect a record number of maiden-overs that would seal India's fate. Everyone who wants India win should pray for Sachin's early dismissal.

Are you out of your mind.. when did his slow run rate stop india from winning. His strikerate was 50-70% even in recent matches and he is the only one scoring runs.. People like you go to every cricket story and simply write 'sachin should retire'. Get your facts right and check if your comment is relevant to the article..

IPL & INDIAN CRICKET
by anand on Jan 11, 2012 10:45 PM

indian cricket is going the indian hockey way thanks to BCCI Greed & lack of ideas & professional approach & also due to the annual tamasha called IPL. ALL our bowlers are breaking down due to IPL.
