Akash chopra not given his due
by Manoj Ramachandran on Jan 03, 2012 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

Absolutely Right,Akash Chopra was one of the best opening Batsmen India had seen in recent years who faced difficult conditions and scored well in hostile conditions. He should have played a lot more for the country but politics ruined it probably. We have to find batsmen who score well out of india consistently otherwise our batting strength will only remain on paper and placid made to order asian batting wickets. It takes guts, skill and concentration to score in Australia, england etc and one haS to be consistent too.India lost the opportunity of putting Aussies under pressure on the 2nd day of the 1st test when they were 213 for 3 and it looks curtains for them from that time onwards.

Re: Akash chopra not given his due
by soumya rout on Jan 03, 2012 02:17 PM
Absolutely correct....Apart from Akash Chopra, the other opener not given the due is Shiv Sundar Das. Only after failure in one series dropped from the side and not looked at again.Wasim is also another choice. Now aprt from Viru and Gauti none is there in the team who can open the Innings...There is talk about Shaha, but not sure how far he is suitable and Rahane is not one genuine opener even in Ranji Trophy matches...

Irresponsible batting display by Indians
by anand datar on Jan 03, 2012 01:53 PM  | Hide replies

It was an irresponsible batting display by Indian batsmen. Time and again they have showed lack of application. No one wants to stay at the crease. This is Test cricket, not a one day cricket. When are they going to realize this ?! I think they have been spoiled by ODIs and T20s ! Gambhir.... why was he selected in spite of repeated failures ? Why the young talents like Rohit Sharma and Rahane were not given a chance ? Dhoni is being partial in picking his favorites, and not the right players. This will not help India. India will go on losing all the matches and we will be helpless spectators !!

Sachin has problem with concentration
by pradeep agarwal on Jan 03, 2012 01:46 PM  | Hide replies

He is getting out after solid starts. It seems that age is taking toll & he is unable to bat out the sessions. He has lost wicket at least twice on deliveries that should have been hit for four including the one today.

Opener failure
by Jatin Desai on Jan 03, 2012 01:44 PM  | Hide replies

India level 2003-04 series because of Akash Chopra. His highest was 48 in 8 innings, but most of time he saw new ball thro'.

Since Akash Chopra returned earlier, he made headline back home while team playing Onedayer... Both Ganguly & SheWag didn't like Mr Chopra taking credit of successful test series... So he was targetted & taken out of side
In 2008-09 , openers failed . Jaffer was dropped after 2 test.. Dravid opened. We still lost 2-1

In 2011-12, Gambir will be dropped... Dravid will have to open in Perth, but Sachin will not move to no3. May be Rohit or Virat kohli.
This one looks like 4-0.

Time to overhaul Indian middle order
by pradeep agarwal on Jan 03, 2012 01:43 PM  | Hide replies

we need to overcome our inability to phase out players at opportune time.the selection committee needs to now phase out likes of Laxman & Dravid while axing Gautam from opener slot.Age has caught up with earlier two while Gauti is technically flawed to play against swing.Rahane,Rohit & Pujara(if Kohli fails in Australia) once fit along with Pravin Kumar & jadeja should be permanent feature of team India in test cricket
