Seniors retire
by Rythm on Feb 18, 2012 01:53 PM  | Hide replies

Tendulkar has to retire. There are many youngsters who need to get an opportunity to play international cricket. Rotational policy is best invented so that these seniors are politely and not so subtly told to make way for youngsters

Eric says, Ishant is unlucky... what a joke!!!
by K Ram on Feb 18, 2012 07:14 AM  | Hide replies

I'd say, Ishant is in fact lucky to have played these many matches for India without displaying any exceptional talent. Even my detractors would agree that, a reasonable bowler (I mean, an average bowler) is expected to have taken 4 wickets per test match and 1.5 wickets per ODIs and at least, 1 per a T20. Ishant doesn't even have a strike rate of 3 wickets per test match and why is he still there in the radar bemuses me. Ishant doesn't have that (4 wkts/match) strike rate even in first class matches. We're only wasting precious time and match experience for deserving bowlers like Dinda / Varun trying this man again and again. If height is the criteria that's getting him selection, you can find many taller than him and if u teach them the art of fast bowling, they'll sure become a lot better. Do not invest any more hopes on Ishant and let hime earn selection by working hard and doing exceptionally at the domestic level.

100% true Ram. The only positive thing was, he dismissed Ponting 8 times. Other than that, he simply disappointed!

ponting
by cool dude on Feb 18, 2012 03:09 AM

As an indian fan, i am so glad ponting is still around. He is bad omen for australia, only warne mcgrath and gilly could reverse his bad influence.
As soon sa he becomes captain look what happened, sri lanka got a bonus point. I hope australia make him captain one more time

We were expecting Vinay to emerge
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 18, 2012 01:20 AM  | Hide replies

In more recent Hawkeye data Vinay was consistent in the pitch map areas and his pace was around 82-87 mph clearly as quick as Zaheer and also accurate. Both Zaheer and Irfan have the ability to swing the ball both ways and I think Vinay has a more dominant out-swinger though he can bowl the in-swinger.

Zaheer has a better surprise element in his bowling but I would see Vinay reaching his true potential in about 20 more ODIs and he seems to be already showing that.

India has serious problems in the WC with only Zaheer and Munaf as the 2 seamers. For the 2015 ODI WC in Australia, India's bowling attack for now looks like: Munaf, Vinay and Irfan and if possible Zaheer but not sure.

Yadav, Varun and Ishant could be more suited for Tests and the decline of Ishant could result in Vinay as a backup Test prospect.

The dropping of Praveen's pace has made him quite in-effective even in 1-dayers so Vinay and Irfan might be around. There is no word from Munaf either.

Vinay is absolute thinking bowler in Limited over. Not because of his outswinger alone he is excelling, but the time of that delivery makes him an unsung hero in bowling. But I doubt his Test Skills yet.

India really dont hv Test class yet. They hv to keep trying Vinay, Yadav and some outsiders. Instead of Munaf and Ishant, we can bet for Sreeshanth. Zaheer is not good also, but we dont hv many choices unfortunately.

Vinay kumar ... ordinary

Wonder how he still survives...he takes wicket or the batsmen give away their wicket.Very ordinary and surprisingly successful.

no batsman give their wicket to bowler as a gift..the batsman is induced to believe that the ball is simple and can be hit, and he commits the cardinal mistake and gets out..

Simons statement on Ishant. Pathetic
by cc man on Feb 18, 2012 12:43 AM  | Hide replies

hope he is not discouraged and Indian cricket sticks with him. There's an incredible cricketer and a clever bowler in him," said Simons about Ishant.

Because of such brainless coaches, Indian bowling faltered in recent debacles in ENG,AUS

Not alone that. We continue to persist with Zaheer in bowling. unfortunate that he is not consistant.

wondering Selection needs to go little southward to find some local bowlers who are mentally strong and raring to go.

got to recognize his accomplishments not his pace ..
by krishna on Feb 18, 2012 12:34 AM  | Hide replies

Poor guy is facing the wrath of his critics. Agreed he got smashed by David Warner and Co. in his only test in Australia. The fact is that the other bowlers got smashed too. If Vinay had one bad outing; warner too had 1 good outing). Vinay may not be adequately equipped for longer version of the game; however he is doing better than the rest of the Indian ODI pace attack. His detractors feel that he does not have the pace but who cares... Pace is not the only parameter to measure a bowler. Even the great mcgrath was not known for his pace but other nuances of his bowling.

By no stretch of imagination he can be compared to a Mcgrath, Akram ... The focus is on giving the guy a fair chance (like Raina, Rohit or Yusuf) to prove his worth. In the meantime there are enough cricketers in the Indian side whose talent can be scrutinized.

True.... Ishant is such a waste to the team. He was slammed for 424 runs in 6 innings @ avg of 106. He is left alone while poor chaps like Unadkat, Vinay Kumar, etc are targeted for failing in 1 or 2 matches.
