THEN RESIGN !
by anand datar on Feb 09, 2012 04:31 PM

Lifting morale of the team is the main job of the captain, and if Dhoni is finding it difficult THEN HE MUST RESIGN IMMEDIATELY !! Have you ever seen Dhoni going upto the bowler to give him support or tips ? NO !! Why is he there then ? If he resigns from the captaincy at least he can concentrate more on his wicket keepng and batting !

in 1994 the england team led my mike atherton had gooch (41 yrs), gatting (37 yrs). they were forced upon mike by the then chairman of selectors - ray illingworth. it was not uncommon for the then england team to have players play till about 40. needless to say, that ashes tour was a disaster for gooch and gatting who promptly retired after that - (wiki - Gooch and Gatting both retired from International cricket at the end of the tour, and it was generally felt by commentators that it was a tour too far for both of them, as they failed regularly with the bat (they scored one fifty and one century between them in 19 innings and averaged a combined 22.47) and contributed heavily towards England's malaise in the field.)

age catches up with everybody. in tennis, roger federer can no longer win slams. it happened to sampras - after 2000, he won only 1 slam in the next 2 years. in cricket, for batsmen, after 35, one's days are numbered. reflexes, running between wickets, and fielding are affected. see the number of catches dravid has dropped at first slip

True. But what is the inspiration that is still preventing Dravid and Laxman from retiring. You should retire when people ask "why" and not "why not". Here public would soon show them the doors.

it's felt that we come to conclusions & reactions very quickly. the team under dhoni is arguably one of the best side. we don't have a choice of captain who can shoulder that responsibility in addition to own performance. even after these 8 consecutive test defeats the data is in favour of msd as captain-17-11 (win-loss) with only ganguly at 21 wins ahead of him. further when india lost in england dhoni was most valuable player in ODI. In australia he played only three tests and was at avg. 20 like all other greater batsmen. In T20 both matches he was not out with 48 & 21 or something like that. In 1st ODI with Aus where rain played a big role, the bowlers could not restrict aussies and batsmen collapsed with 31 & 29 the highest scores of kohli and msd. He is the wkt keeper batsman with highest avg in ODI >50. When every one fails, it should not be attributed to a single person. As msd said if there is somebody for us to open well and captain well in the long run,, that is the problem with team india,, lets hope the team makes a comeback in Triseries and win it. See England who failed miserably in neutral venue against Pak and SL who were thrashed by SA.. It all happens with any team at certain points of time.

dhoni still the best bet

reading comments on dropping dhoni, but he is the best in ODI... just a match failure... also peole talk about VK as next captain... cummon guys VK will never get the captaincy the way Yuvi didnt... coz it takes more than runs to lead a team... with an attitude like that team will be in shambles if either yuvi or VK lead teh team. Dhoni is the best bet for captaincty and also probably one of the best ODI players in teh world right now

dhoni looks dried and tired and can be rested
by Jortin Varappally on Feb 09, 2012 12:21 PM

i like the way ashwin thinks.what about dhoni himself. dhoni, shewag and gambir are worst performers currently and they need an utter flat deck to score. i think shewag and dhoni can dropped from the team and at least has to find another opener.sachin a great player but he can stop playing after the world cup and the case of gilli is great exammple to end the career in high.

really? Who palyed against england in the ODI series(both in England and India)? One bad match and u write off Dhoni... His position is Test matches might still be debatable(but there's no1 currently who can replace him as a captain) but his position in the Indian team for ODI is certainly secure..
