we should no be harsh on our test cricketers because they do not have the stamina to play non-stop for 6 hours a day, five days a week. it takes a toll on their mind and body. these highly-paid, highly-rated cricketers are made to toil like casual laborers for five days - it is very cruel. which is why in all these matches, after 20 overs of batting or four overs of bowling, in a day, they had done their duty. beyond four overs, our poor bowlers and fielders bodies cannot take it. our batsmen cannot concentrate beyond 20 overs and need the comfort of the pavilion. to subject these 20-20 specialists to long hours of cruel toiling is inhuman. they are well and truly 20-20 specialists, earning millions in a sport which is a mix of big business, bollywood, politics, media frenzy, and parties. how can we subject our peacocks to the indignities of labor over five long days? they will get sunburnt

Surprising does he worth for 2 million, forget about 2 million, he is not even worth for one million.Chennai Super Kings are really crazy or may be publicity stunt, who is watching what and how much really player are paid. If it is really true then the said money is enough for the rest of his life.
I appeal to all the true Indians to boycott watching IPL, in the larger intersts of the nation, as IPL is taking us nowhere and is a curse to Indian cricket. Cricket is popular mainly due to international commitments of any player or any nation and not due to franchisee commitments of any player and hence pls stop watching IPL atleast for the betterment of Indian Cricket. IPL also promotes parochialism and regionalism and selfish motives of all the people involved in the tournament.
I remember this guy opting out of the previous season of the IPL to 'prolong' his Test career. I guess, he understands that there is no place for him in the present Australian team. The new crop of Aussie quicks might have forced Johnson to think seriously about alternative income sources..!!
Re: Mitchell Johnson...???!!

Other than Clarke and Johnson, every other Aussie wanted to play in IPL. Clarke wanted close to a million in IPL-2 but the franchisees were not inetrested then.
The math is simple. Demand: There are 9 teams, 11 players- 7 Indians and 4 overseas. So, the demand is: 77 Indians and 44 Overseas players. Supply: Out of the top 60 quality players in the world, roughly 10 Indians and 50 Overseas players are there. Supply/ Demand: Overseas players 1.388 and Indians: 0.158. So, the Indians are worth 8.75 times a similar quality player overseas. the IPL franchisees run businesses and they know to do this math unlike a few commentators here.

Agreeing to your math is a different issue. As per your logic the demand is 63 indian players and 36 overseas

that was a typo- sorry. but the numbers 1.388 and 0.158 and 8.75 are all correct; based on 63 and 36
IPL is the root cause of all problems in indian cricket.See the record of last 4 years of indian matches just after IPL,india has mainly lost matches, most of them.Lost t20 world cup ,and so many tournaments which occured just after IPL, india has routinely lost in them in last 4 years..Now see the opposite, we won this year2011 world cup as it was before IPL.IPl has so many matches so it burdens them but they like to play it due to financial matters.See michael clarke, he did not play in Any IPL ,because he wanted to preserve his best for his country and now everyone knows his performance. No senior retired cicketer like gvskar, shastri or anybody else would not critisize ipl because its earning them good money without any effort. So please boycott IPL and dont go to stadiums ,dont watch it, just hate it ,may be this will bring a change in BCCI cricket

Now you see Michael Clark's recent record prior to the matches against India. He was utter failure even whole Aussies were failure, now when they started playing against India, they all found good form thanks to India's weak bowling and batting. I agree with you that IPl is one of the reasons of India's below par show in Home away matches.
England tormented us when we went there and no english player was sold. Johnson who didn't play against India has been bought by a franchisee but Siddle who ran through the top order was not considered. Rampaul bowled well this time and he too was not bought, same story with Swann too. Thankfully Hussey, Warner were bought last year and Michael clarke not figuring here, else they also would have been shown the door.
What does it mean? If you humiliate us on the field, we will bury you in the auction.
