Why India is failing
by Abhishek Mukherjee on Dec 30, 2012 11:25 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian Team is playing below par and the question in our mind is that why the team (with more or less the same nucleus) which won the World Cup 2011 is failing. The answer to me, a cricket fan is that:
1. Viru and Gauti in their present form do not deserve a place in the team
2. Persistant place for non performing Rohit Sharma- whereas Manoj Tewari and the like being consistently ignored
3. Complete lack of bowling match winners. Our part timers are now been tested more as the prime bowlers are struggling.
4. Lack of a genuine all rounder.

The search for all these may take time, however, at least some changes are required for this Indian team and that too fast.

We need to be a bit more charitable in our thoughts. We were the same people who were lauding him when his team won the World Cup for us. As in life everybody has their ups and downs. I am sure all of us have. Tell me who can replace him and do miracles to the team. We can't even field five fit bowlers. What can you expect. If the top order fails to fire time and again what can Dhoni do. He can only play with the personnel he s provided. I think Sehwag, Gautam, Rohit should be asked to sit out as they have been consistently failing. Then nobody will take their place for granted. I am not a Dhoni fan but in the current circumstances I think he is the most suitable.

There is nothing wrong to be Dhoni's fan dear!!!!
Whether he is suitable or not thats different story but we lack Bowlers and without match winner bowler we can not win many series.
There would be time when our so called majestic batting line up would fail. Then our bowlers need to standup and win the game for us.

India's performance

Except Dhoni's batting, India's top order batting was the worst, to say the least. Dhoni's Century has gone in vain on account of other batsmen, a few missed chances & at least 2 wrong decisions.

too much work for dhoni must share his work with his IPL rivals as this is not IPL but this is indian team as a whole it is failure of dhoni as a team leader to motivate his white elephants as ganbhir sehawag and get work done

We are losing because we have a bad team, not a bad captain. If we drop gambhir and sehwag, everything will become fine in no time. Those are the politicians in this team, purposely under-performing.

fast bouncy pitch , formidable fast bowling , wet ground , half the team back for 29. Yet Dhoni is singlehandedly able to take the card past 225. Just brilliant.

Accept the truth. This innings is being described after that of Kapil Dev, but considering the bowling strength of Pak vs Zimbabwe it is perhaps the best ODI innings in the anals of History. India's ODI performance is good and he is just 2-3 match short in overtaking Dada's captaincy record and later Azhar's best ever ODI records. Team India is facing difficult time due to much of the 'technical stuff' and the so many 'captains in making' who never play for the team but try to keep own records straight. The way he reached his 80s 90s and 100-it was never felt that he is batting for his own goals.. It was one of the best fights ever.. Even the Great Sachin hit his 100th 100 where India failed partly because of his slow batting.. with so many wickets left. That was not the case here..

very true, sunil p, if sachin was playing here he would worry more about getting his century rahter than playing fast...it happened during his 100th 100 vs bd too...he put self before team and scored a slow century on a flat track which was responsible for our defeat ultimately...see how dhoni batted in that same match after he came to the crease...for dhoni team interest and team record comes before self...he would not mind missing century and records if the team is benefitted...for him it is his duty to bat for the team any personal records that come are just a bonus...he does not go out of his way for the records if that would be detrimental to the interests of the team...

who is a better odi batsman
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 30, 2012 09:07 PM  | Hide replies

dhoni completed 7000 odi runs in 188 innings while sahin did that in 196 innings...this despite the fact that sachin opened the innings most of the times and dhoni usually bats at much lower batting position...still he has MORE runs in LESS innings...

Dhoni is all time great wicket keeper batsman of India. But you have to keep in a mind what age those innings are started.

16 year boy is not that mature what 22 year is.

At the age of 16 Dhoni was never be able to come in a Indian team, while Sachin has established himself at 16

More importantly Dhoni will never be able to cross any of Sachin's batting record except this. Why? ?

If you really wants to compare both of them that please keep in track their ages vs inning record
.

Yes , also allow dhoni to play for for a total of 23 years( another 16 years to go ) , give him the guarantee that he never will be dropped - irrespective of poor performances . He will not only break all records but create records which will never be broken.

1. All players in the world are not supposed to be lucky/fit/able enough to play for 22-23 years. So no one is going to overtake Sachin in near future. 2. There is no point in comparing everything by the final gross total. Other parameters like Average, runs scored in last one year or two year etc. are also much handy to judge players. 3. If we take the average scores of World Cricketers in ODI history who has scored atleast500-1000 runs, Dhoni comes in the top worldwide.. And his place is 6/7down so he does not score long like Sachin but keeps Not Out and has a better average. This is not a race to compare at all. It is the ability to fight and contribute at the most needed hours that matters. Let's not forget that Sachin has stated so clearly that M S is the best Captain he has played under.. so nothing more is required for Dhoni to as certificate.

the format of ODI has changed dear. now when do you think scores less than 250 which was winnablw total in odo in 90's when sachin was batting. these days bowles are happy to concede 5 runs per over. do u think the same bowlers would be satisfied by this. no man no. get your perspective right u kid

for doubters
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 30, 2012 08:59 PM  | Hide replies

dhoni has shown again that he can bat under intense pressure and on pitch favoring fast bowlers...

for those who think he can only bat on flat tracks and when good foundation has led he has shown that he can bat at 29 for 5 situation with pitch being wet with rain and assisting fast bowlers...
