Sachin has done the right thing by retiring from ODI since a better player in the form of Rahane is there. He should make a similar assessment of the test team also and take a decision.(Whether Raina is better than him?)

maybe you did not watch when the crowds did the same when he came out to bat :)
His last century in Bangladesh which we lost . This is what every one makes a mistake - one of the greatest Indian Verghese of Milk Revelution made same mistake.Sachin has a mockery of his great career

Even Pujara and Kohli did it in recent Eng series becoz of which we lost 1-2.. Making mockery of their caeeer?
Ponting retired from ODIs after criticism from media/fans and in fact he needed to be sounded tacitly by the Board too.
Ponting also should have retired from test cricket after the India series when he scored more than 540 runs in four tests with two centuries with hius heads high and with an average of 54 plus. But, sadly he chose to prolong his Test career and the series against New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa were a complete fiasco for him personally - in a way dented his invincibility - with his final test average at 51.95. By then everybody was tired of him continuing (though like what happens to Tendulkar now many didn't feel it pleasant to speak against him openly)and again he had to be tacitly made to feel.
In the same way, Tendulkar should have retired after the World Cup ODI, but he didn't. Fans felt bored. There were in fact criticism beyond what Ponting faced for himself. Now Tendulkar has gracefully obliged by exiting from ODI games in the hope of facing less wrath for continuation in Tests(Probably aiming at 200 tests-another RECORD for him) little realising that this phase will only be TRANSIENT. Whether he scores big or not in the series against Australia or earlier He should gracefully make his bow lest he be REMEMBERED MORE FOR HIS VACILLATION/INDECISION than for his miles long list of achievements. His test average is also falling.
Ponting's fate seems to be replicating in his case.
