Who should be the captain?
by Sathya on Dec 16, 2012 08:26 AM  | Hide replies

Can someone point a captain who never let's his team lose or under performs? If it's Tendulkar, people will say that he will bounce back and prove himself. After 10-15 failures he will also score a 50 or 100 and media/people will say Tendulkar has silenced his critics after an excellent knock...forgetting the 10/15 failures. But in case of Dhoni, even if he scores (last 2 innings) people still try to find reasons to blame him. As per Gambhir (after winning his IPL), a Captain is as good as his team. See the records of Tendulkar and Dravid. Hope no one forgets how Ganguly used to go back to pavilion like a wind when he was in bad form. He could not find his form back until he was stripped off his captaincy and thrown away from the team. Dhoni says, he doesn't want to run away from the challenge and he is proving himself....why not give him a chance? Amarnath doesn't have a tooth to ask Tendulkar to retire...everyone says he has to speak to the selectors? what should be speak? why not be straight forward? They are just jealous that Dhoni was the only captain to get the world cup again after them and he was the Man of the Match too in the finals.

Sathya:

Well said. We should have Dhoni lead us for a long time. At least we are not losing 25 out of 20 tests we play with him as captain.
No wonder this "who else will.." syndrome keeps Sachin in the team as well.

Don't read too much into one innings of Dhoni or Kohli or Tendulkar. If you see Dhoni's last 20 Tests, he still averages under 30. Remember that Dhoni, Kohli were benefitted by Eng playing for time. You needed to see the field placements in the pre-lunch session to understand that. But that nearly backfired for Eng as the batsmen got set and threatened to bat till the end of the day. This is a pitch where the batsman can bat on if one gets set. Losing 10 of 13 Tests will be considered bad for any captain. Even Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will get the captain changed.

Advantage England...
by Jaguar on Dec 16, 2012 03:47 AM  | Hide replies

Brave effort by Kohli & Dhoni but it went down the drain at the end of the end. England still have a massive advantage.. Indian tailenders are walking wickets and india is still 30 runs behind.. secondly, India will be batting last on this wicket.. Its going to be 3-1.

No, there is no advantage for Eng yet. They have to bat till 5th day lunch and beyond to stay clear. They could have attacked Dhoni & Kohli in the pre-lunch session yesterday. Instead they just played for poassing time, just as they did today.

Problem is with Indian Batting.. so far didn't look consistent or reliable against Eng bowlers.. so if Eng could set a target of 200 it could be difficult for India..

MS Dhoni's brilliance
by Gurjot Singh on Dec 16, 2012 03:22 AM

This match shows why MS Dhoni is the greatest captain India ever had. He made sure we pick the right pitch that suits our need, accentuates our strenght and makes amend for our weakness. Only way Engalnd could win this test was by taking a huge first innings lead. However, it is clear that the table has been turned and India will get a lead of 50 to 100 runs. Indian bolwers will be menacing and bundle England out cheaply. That will leave plenty of time for India to win on 5th day. Indian bowleres were lot more effective in first innings and they will be lethal in second. Enlish bowling was pathetic that allowed Kohli/Dhoni to score at their will under the pitch condition.
I can smell victory. Dhoni has already been vindicated and it is time for the critics to shut up.

When someone plays for personal milestones that is called selfishness..getting stuck in the 90s is not for any team cause..its simply for personal cause and to save the skin of his master srinivasan who after revelations by amarnath wouldnt be feeling good after single handedly protecting dhoni..and he says gambhir is selfish..classic case of pot calling kettle black..as a matter of fact gambhir was a much more consistent performer..its time some of these cricketers get a lesson on patriotism and team cause..

Just as something fishy from Srinivasan was always expected, till revealed by Amarnath there could be something fishy in Cook's dismissal in the first innings. Will Dharmasena reveal something?

Bottomline
by Indian on Dec 15, 2012 11:38 PM  | Hide replies

India throw away the advantage. India was at 4/269 and ended up with 290 odd with only the tailenders remaining.

I am just disappointed at Dhoni's rush of blood and geting run out. I watched the first two session and Dhoni was so careful not doing anything risky and holding Kohli back from attempting even a slightest risky run.

And he lost the plot. I wonder how India will even get a lead that Kohli is talking about..

I think this is Advantage England now..

I feel the same way. I think India will be out trying to save this test now instead of winning..

We had an opportunity but ohh well.

This Indian team needs complete overhaul. Gambhir has to be dropped and Sachin needs to move on. Sehwag is also not the same bat he used to be and his place should be considered seriously as well..

I don't think Dhoni should be in the team, but who will captain the team then? But then again,we can have none playing captain or some one from playing eleven appointed as captain test by test basis..

That is a negative mindset. When Dhoni was made captain, he did not have the experience of leading any side. Didn't he do well at that time? When there is non-stop losses captain has to at least offer to resign. If he still says I will not run away from responsibility then things are really worse for the team!

one man doesnt make a team...captain's responsibility to gel the team together and inspire, which is not hapeening since long time with Dhoni...we need a new captain and things will change for good atleast in the long run...BTW sachin shud gracefully get out of the team...he is not above the nation of 1 billion for his previous records...
