I hope Dhoni and Sachin will use their influences in BCCI to get Sunil Gavasker his dues from BCCI related to IPL. Otherwise he will keep talking like this and make their lives difficult.
For anyone who has the slightest power of observation, forget the so called experts, it is crystal clear that Indian cricket is suffering because of two reasons:
1. Excessive number of matches being played
2. As a consequence of such excessive workload, there is jadedness of most players on the one hand and needless politics on the other
So what is the way forward?
BCCI should start by calling off the impending tours of Pakistan and Australia to India. Team India should not play any international matches for the next three months.
IPL, for all the derision and ridicule it attracts, is a pioneering brand created by BCCI and should be nurtured. But it should be made a more serious affair by getting rid of non serious players like those who are above 35 years of age, those who have retired from their national teams, those who do not have flair and energy for this type of game.
Thereafter, BCCI should work out a sensible international schedule for Team India with not more than 12 tests, 40 to 50 ODIs and 10 to 12 T20 internationals. This will mean that any player will have a maximum of 120 to 130 playing days. One has to make allowance for travel, practice etc. besides this.
Also, without expecting individual players to take rest by themselves, BCCI should rotate the playing XI by itself from a pool of about 25-30 players.
BCCI should reward fast bowlers more than it does to batsmen and spinners. Sporting pitches should be prepared.
