The use of the new ball lacquer and the reverse swinging Old ball was eliminated with Dhoni opting for rank turners and spin option to open the bowling attack.
Frankly, it is a step backwards because starting from 2000 the approach was to not go for rank turners and triple spin attack. There was a dramatic rise in Test matches won by India as compared to the earlier decades.
Even though the quality of players improved and the standard of cricket raised the playing field was also the same. West Indies and to some extent only Pakistan went downhill.
But the emergence of Sri Lanka and SA along with some improvement with Bangladesh, teams have been competitive.
Dhoni has to be patient and give Zaheer and Ishant a good spell of 7-8 overs first with new ball, then with the old ball and again with the second new ball.
By negating the fast bowlers the spinners are over-loaded and tend to drop their level.
it would be a dream come true to see ishant bowling in rythm with great outswingers. i hope he bowls with a balanced body movements and follow through. and pray he doesnt fall on the pitch while bowling.
i hope he get back some of his natural aggression back. i pray he comes out energetic and doesnt sleepwalk. i pray he dooesnt end up with a regular 0/100
Now Ishant and Zaheer will bowl in such a way that there is nothing in the pitch for the pace bowlers. Zaheer will bowl like jogger And Ishant will run hard and bowl single dimensionally with incoming deliveries in a wayward fashion. Unless these guys bowl consistenly on good line and length with outswingers,inswingers with brains, the odds are bad
