I have heard chinks in the armor and ironing out the kinks. Never heard about ironing out the chinks. So, the title leaves me wondering if author wants to pancake chinks (a British slang for Chinese), which, by the way, has nothing to do with Cricket. Just a little levity at the cost of 'language challenged' author.
Our spinners neither can turn the ball nor can maintain line and length (the recent comment came from all time great off spinner Erapalli Prasanna), on the other hand England spinners do the just opposite in the perfect manner. They never like to miss the line and length and then also mix vicious spin which can iron out Indian team this time in Kolkata.
With England if it is OK we play 16 players against their 11 . We have done all we could to see they do not play well ! but this could be additional idea.
Atleast 7 players of the playing 11 in the Indian team do not contribute anything, either in batting or bowling. That includes Dhoni also whose wicket -keeping skills are just 50%. Sehwag cant even take a catch properly, has to be hidden in the slips, as he cannot field and run around the boundary.
In such a scenario, India's attempt to win a test match is by getting the pitch curator to tamper with the pitch, make it a big turner. Then win the toss, bat first, hope we score 450 plus runs and then again hope that our spinners rip thru the English batting line up, in both their innings
What will happen if the English win the toss and bat first. As of today, our batsmen can neither play swing, seam bowling or spin on Indian pitches. The "hunter" will become the "hunted".
On real cricketing talent, with atleast top 5 batsmen not contributing or seriously intending to "stay put" at the pitch for a long period, how can we even draw a test match. It is a very weak situation which any touring team will exploit easily.

AS an Indian I am finding this offensive and in touch with my lawyers and political strings - whether you could be arrested on Friday night at 0000 hrs under section 66A.There are already round the clock people watching you so do not think of escaping .
Most succesful batsmen in India from England had lot of patience one I remember is Ken Barrigton - he would not mind playing overs together with out a run - we had some of best spinners at the time .approach of Cook is likely to be more succesful than Pietersen - which may not click all the time . England failed in the first test because they leaked too many runs early .Any team bottle them up wickets will come .This Indian team is nothing to worry particularly spin play patiently you will conquer .

The Brits found out the problem with the Bengalis early and shifted the capital. The decline of Calcutta since independence is sad story.
