Peterson's switch hits were real treat to watch. This is the charm of IPL where you get to see not just such innovative shots but also other brilliant facets of cricket in fielding, death over bowling, batting, sudden quick twists & turns and captains' responses... and many more such moves. It is the unceratinities which brings best out of the IPL matches. However one dampner of this I{PL so far has been that while the overseas players have been very innovative and attractive to watch but the Indian counterparts,Indian greats or the Juniors have not been all that great with one or two exceptions like A Rahane, Rayudu.. etc.
also i would like to add that switch hit shots would never be allowed in indian domestic circuit . normally ind. umps appear to be very strict when anything is not according to 'convention' . this so called 'innovation' shot is nipped in the bud in indian domestic circuit.
peterson played 3 switch hits of the total 4 deliveries he faced chawla. even though the mcc says the shot is legal, but there are numerous problems associated with it, the biggest is f.ex. in peterson's case, chawla prethinks and runs in that he's going to bowl to a left hander, also the field is set according to the left hander, but then this guy changes to be a right handed batsman ..all planning goes for a toss, incl. the field set. one of the shots peterson hit was in the deep extra cover region for a left hander, however it wouldn't have been easy if he were assuming his normal stance, so basically he became a right hander and smote it to the deep midwicket fence. an interesting point is all 4 shots he played off chawla were on the ON side for the stance he was in when facing the ball.
another thing, it may well have been that at least 1 of the 3 switch hits were illegal, as if scrutinized it could be chawla did not complete his stride with backfoot not landed and peterson starting to change the grip to become a right hander.

switch hit is another one of the many things which are against bowlers and favor batsmen in cricket. an equivalent i can think of is let bowlers not declare their mode right arm over/round, left arm over/round..then let's see how the batsmen tackle with it. but cricket laws don't allow that, it will be called a no ball.
IPL peterson shots look like street players quality. Then why IPL need rules..just play jockey, hockeyy, football in the ground.. poor MI not professional nowdays...sure MI will loose badly from here..
