Treat umpires like human beings
by B M on Apr 10, 2012 08:36 AM  | Hide replies

Human beings who make mistakes have to face criticism and at times punishments. There is no need to shield the umpires from similar treatment. When they make mistakes, they are excused because they are human beings. For the same reason, they should be treated like human beings. It would be unjust to expect players to keep their cools when umpires make blunders. If MI players are going to be punished for their behaviour, the umpires too should be fired for their incompetence.

This is a special case. Its a blunder by umpires, not a normal mistake. Players protesting against normal mistakes is not pardonable, but don't expect players to accept bizzare blunders such as these without any reaction. It is normal for any human beings to react to injustice and that's what MI players did. It was not a protest against a doubtful lbw decision or close run out. It was something that could be very easily verified and was not done.

Would be very unfair if action is taken against MI players alone. The incompetent umpires should be also punished.

You have to understand the difference between mistake and blunder! Mistakes may be pardonned. If the umpires make this kind of blunders, they are incompetent and must be fired.

There are several instances when umpires have used technology (outside of DRS, Run-outs & stumping) when they are not sure of what happened? Say, No-ball....by law they are supposed to call it when the bowler delivers the ball but so many time they ask for review after the batsman gets out. Its a good gesture instead of giving batsman out on a no-ball. Similarly, for full toss above waist height.
Nobody is asking umpires to review LBWs (without DRS)but whenever in doubt Third umpire should be used otherwise...what's the use of 10 cameras on field & umpire seating in gallery!!! Also, the third umpire should be pro-active..if he knows a mistake is happening...go ahead & call on field umpires..even when they don't call him..say for 5 ball over or grounded catch claimed etc...!!

Its not just to expect players to maintain their cool when umpires make such blunders. You need to be Mahatma Gandhi to remain cool when being subjected to injustice. It is unfair to expect Bhajji to display this kind of behaviour. Players should accept simple mistakes of umpires but ICC should amend rules to allow players to show their feelings to some extent when umpire has made blunders.

We are not talking of lbw! This is a matter of whether or not a batsman is clean bowled. This can be easily verified with a single review of replay. If the umpires did not do it, it is an unpardonable blunder. A normal human being cannot tolerate injustice of this level. Punish MI for their behaviour but it would be unfair if umpires are allowed to go scot free. Sack the umpires first before any action against MI players. Mistakes can be pardoned but not blunders.

For lbw, there's no proven way to verify umpires decision but this is a case of clean bowled which can be easily verified by replay.

Its foolish to compare this case with lbw decisions.

In spite of such open and clear mistakes on the part of umpires they are not supposed to be challenged by the players.
What a funny rule!
Now the ICC will fine the players involved in the argument with umpires.

What ever be the case, if the players are bound to go by umpires decision there is no point arguing with the umpires, which is against fair play. Such onfield behaviour should be banned from the game. Specifically when millions are watching the game. Since this is MI team, no action will be taken as it is Sachins' team

Very strange rules. Umpires's blunders are expected to be forgotton under the excuse that 'after all they are human beings and are bound to make mistakes'. But one has to remember that players too are human beings. Like normal human beings, it is their right to get angry and vent their feelings when subjected to injustice. ICC rules should be amended such that if after investigations, the umpires are found to have made a blunder, the players should be treated leniently.

If umpires are allowed to make mistakes under the guise that they are human beings, the players should be allowed to vent their feelings in the same manner as a normal human being will do.

First off all you have to understand that we are talking about 'clean bowled' in this case, not 'lbw'.

If you want to take action, it should be done against any one and everyone who has done wrong, be it players or umpires. No need to treat umpires like gods.

useless umpires
by Arun Moitra on Apr 10, 2012 12:40 AM  | Hide replies

If such a clean bowled case can not be noticed by field umpires then they are certainly useless. But when fail to apply their option to take help from third umpire in the first instance, they are utterly nonsense.

This sort of umpiring ruins the games.. we have seen a lot of such ruining decisions in Sharjah during 90s
