I have always seen Bengalis admire Ganguly and criticize Chappel which is understandable. Let me remind you a one day international at Calcutta against South Africa, where wicket was specially prepared to suit South Africans because they wanted to teach Indian team a lesson for leaving out Saurav. A typical Indian parochial psyche. Better introspect. What was Saurav's performance in 2-3 yrs before he was removed from captaincy ? His test average against all countries barring Zimbabwe and Bangladesh was 29. I do not believe a lot in statistics, but he used to chicken out against fast bowlers. Only after he came back he showed courage against Shoib. Although he did not get big scores but he displayed courage and fighting qualities against raw pace of Pakistani fast bowlers which shows that he had taken his place for granted, prior to that. This is reminiscent of Azharuddin in 90's. Chappel's fault was that he could not come to terms with Indian mindset where a past performance guarantees you a permanent place. He did not have anything to prove, he is an all time great regardless of how we treated him. Rather he showed us the mirror. As far as Harbhajan is concerned, his basic action is illegal and he was able to play only because of 15 degree leverage given by ICC, courtesy pressure tactics employed by India, Pakistan and SriLanka . Our neighbouring countries had reason to support because of Shoib Akhtar and Muralitharan (both accused of arm bending while bowling).
SIR DHOBI IS COOL BCOZ HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO REACT...HE DOESN'T HAVE THAT GUTS NEED TO BE HOT...HE HAD THE LUCK BUT NOW ALSO IT DOESN'T WORK...SO DHOBI GO TO DHOBIGHAT AND TAKE ALSO SIR JADEJA,SIR ASHWIN AND SIR RAINA WID YOU.

It is really a pity so far out of 4 matches, three were low scoring with two matches involving biggies like CSK and MI turning out to be rank boring ones. Both CSK and MI are playing very poor cricket especially on the batting front. The Kolkatta match although shortened due to rain were shade better and more exciting. It looks all teams are rusty to start with and perhaps will take couple of more games before warming up to play exciting cricket. One more observation, while Dravid looked very relaxed with his team RR making a steady start other like Saurav,Bhajji,Dhoni,Sachin.... are lookihg tense and under pressure. It seems it will take little more time for IPL to pick up full steam.

CSK can never win in this IPL. Becoz in this year there are no cricketers, all are SIRS...

I think it is not a nice gesture to criticize crickets like Sourav , please understand he played 311 ODI matches and left 22 centuries behind him and only 2nd Indian player who scored most centuries. And currently placed at 4th position in the top order of centuries after Sachin, Ricky and Jayasurya. And also please note Jayasuraya is ahead of him by 6 centuries but he played 475 ODI matches to reach out to 3rd position But Sourav played 311 matches and made 22 centuries. If he would also continued to play for so many matches he would have also posted few more few more centuries in his kitty. Whatever be the reason for his not playing we should respect the individual for his achievement
I respect Ganguly for what he is but even to remotely suggest that Harbhajan is good enough to lead India is a serious joke or rather insult on the intellect of the listener.
Harbhajan is a Mediocre Bowler even before he lost his so-called form. His Stats & Records speak for itself. I dont believe that Aggression is the ONLY virtue for a Cricketer. There is something called Talent, Hard Work, Innovation & Harbhajan scores low in all front. He is behind Swann, Herath, Ajmal, Sakib, Narine amongst Spinners giving company to the likes of White & Dohorty who make up for their inabilities to bowl with their innocous Batting.

If Harbhajan is mediocre then what is the level of great off spinner Aswin? He did nothing in Australian tour, and Asian cup in Bangladesh. It would be far better to select experienced Bhajji who would have picked up important wickets with his variation flights, loops, vicious spinning ability and finnaly deadly DUSRA.

I have scant respect for Ganguly as well. WHen the team needs his servicces badly he will be busy in pavilion. Lcky for him Sachin, Dravid and VVS were at their peak and he simply leant on them. No marks to Saurav.

Bihari Dhoni should learn how to do captincy.Captaincy doesn't mean neither in a winning match you(DHONI Madam) come up to Bat in higher order and take credit nor in a loosing match (where is DHONI fails no one can blame her).MADAM DHONI is truly a opportunist.

Dhoni hit 183 against Pak and showed what an asset he is to the side...after that many good innings and consistent performance made him captian....India won T20 world cup, gained number 1 test staus, and the 50 over World cup all under dhoni captaincy.......Dhoni has won IPL twice.....and anyone who questions his captaincy is plain jealous of his success....DADA is a good motivator but his own performance is weak...and he never leads from the front..others win him the matches.

Ha Ha Ha Ha...I cant stop my laughter after reading your innocent reply...There is no matter of jealousy...if DADA wants,he can produce 1000 dumb DHONI..DHONI is like a baby with golden spoon in his mouth..DADA made the team and he takes the credit...Dont forget : "DADA IS THE BEST CAPTAIN OF TEAM INDIA AND DHONI IS THE CAPTAIN OF BEST INDIAN TEAM". Do never compare any indian captain with sourav ganguly. He is the first indian captain who erased regionalism and selected only best players and for this Indian cricket team gradually matured to become a respectable cricket country. Previously, only Kapil dev (he himself was a great bowler and batsman) who lifted world cup in the year 1983. But Kapil dev will always be remembered as great all rounder but not a shrewed captain. Even great captains of indian cricket team like Ajit wadekar, Sunil gavaskar, Kapil dev, Ravi Shashtri, and finally Sachin (who possess a special respect for ganguly's cricket brain).

ganguly is not a bad captain...but i would rank dhoni higher than ganguly.....both are good captains thats my point
Re: THE DADA RETURNS :
by Face Dude on Apr 07, 2012 03:37 PM
It may be worth mentioning that captains also will have to lead their teams on their weight of the performances. If motivation and strategy are enough then Mike brearly of England was the best captain ever.
Now Saurav was a failure with both bat and ball. No doubts about that. Never he has played a match saving or a match winning knock. All the time, Sachin, Dravid, VVS played and he basked on their success. Then there was kumble to take wickets.
Compared to Dhoni I might say Saurav was even more lucky. He overstayed just like another stupid cricketer - Srikkanth. All these regional bias should go if Indian cricket has to improve.

Boss Luck also favours some time why don't our india won the world cup under ur Dada Captaincy ,why india won 2 times world cup under Dhoni Captaincy, First think then talk. Why Don,t your kolkata win IPL Under ur Dada Captaincy and why Chennai won three times 2 times in ipl and 1 champions league under dhoni captaincy. I Think this much stats is enough for u to explain.

You are not fighting enemies in war. Cricket is a game. Whoever is in best form let them play. In he past Harbhajan was playing on past performance for too long, finally he was not selected because of very poor form. Let him demonstrate his performance in Local Ranji matches and other forms of cricket played in our country and get earn his place in our National Team.
Re: Re: bhajji

You cannot cement your place if you have talent alone. Performance does matter. Rohit Sharma , Sanja Manjrekar, Murli Vijay and scores of others had talents but actual performance is not there. If you Take England, Graeme Hickm Mark Ramprakash etc were much talented. Hick had so many centuries in Local matches but in Test he never succeeded except against India. You have to justify your talent with performance. Another classic example in Ravindra Jadeja, he has talent but no performance

It is due to his luck Ganguly was selected as replacement for injured player. After Kochi was fired out, he was selected forPune warriors. Here also because of his luck, Yuvraj was unable to play, he was made captain. So nothing special. We have to watch another 6 games to say about his leadership in T20. Like wise, when MI won the first match , people in this forum praising him and say he is above Dhoni. The second match showed what it is to win or loose matches. It is too early to say anything about captaincy in t20
