probably followers of the gentleman's game ever remember the win over the strongest west indies team in kolkata during the 70s using his spinners trio of BS,BSBedi and Prasanna.Indeed a great captain India has ever produced. His freindship with Jaisimha,Abid Ali Abbas Ali baig a talking point in the then cricket cile. May Allh rest his soul in peace...Aameen. Iqbal

I agree with ur point. Who don't respect n value others lives be it human or animals dont deserve any sympathy or respect.
He was not one of the best captains we have had; he was positively the best captain we ever had. His winning percentage is not comparable to some of the more successful ones like say Ajit Wadekar, but he marshalled his meager resources with expertise, and did manage to win quite a few Test Matches despite a weak team. Who can forget his last series as captain wherein he drew level with WI after losing first two Tests only to lose the fifth one. He made Indians take fielding seriously, and his record as a batsman looks ordinary, but is nothing short of a miracle, when we consider the fact that he made all those runs with just one eye. If you don't believe me, try keeping an eye closed for an hour, and doing your normal work. He was far ahead of his times, at least for India.
Tigeer Pat was a great cricketer with a deal of records and achievements behind him both as Batsman & as captain of Indian Cricket team of yester years when there was not so much money in the game people played or watched the game for the love of sport. Despite behing part of the erstwhile Royalty, the Nawab of Pataudi Jr as he was known he was a very noncontroversial cricket personality and had some very tight geentleman sense of right and wrong. It is indeed a pity none of his progeny came to the game.
The Indian cricket is poorer for the death of Pat.
