VIRAT KOHLI - BEST BATSMAN OF TODAY'S AGE
by Vijay Shetty on Oct 19, 2011 12:17 PM

It was heartening to see the emergence of VIRAT KOLHI.His batting syle has to be appreciated. Starts slowly but once set he is very DANGEROUS. In other words FOR FIRST 1 OR 2 OVERS HE IS RAHUL DRAVID THERE AFTER BATS LIKE MIXTURE OF SACHIN AND SHEWAG

The lack of solid openers and genuine pace not addressed
by Nikhil Shah on Oct 19, 2011 04:39 AM  | Hide replies

Over the years India had been relying on heavy batting lineups and spinners. In England, and also in Australia and SA, the opening pairs and increase in pace has been the main difference.

India's fast bowling attack has been evolving. The likes of Ramakant Desai, to the opening pair of Abid Ali and Solkar. It then improved with Kapil, Ghavri and Binny.

The emergence of Srinath, along with Prasad also with Agarkar, Harvinder Singh and Mohanty
gave some status to the Indian team. When Zaheer and Nehra joined Srinath the attack was at its peak.

In recent times, going with Praveen, RIP Singh, Munaf and Vinay is a step backwards. Ishant and Sreesanth improved the pace attack
in Test matches but in ODIs in India they went with 5.5-6.0 runs per over.

The infusion of Gambhir and Sehwag made a huge difference to the India lineup outside India in both forms of the game. So did Ishant Sharma.

Though Umesh Yadav's pace is about 86-90mph, he could over the long term fit better with Test match bowling.

The arrival of Varun Aaron is exciting because he adds more pace then Umesh Yadav and can make an impact in the ODIs in India unlike Ishant, Sreesanth and Yadav.

Varun has played only 11 ODI matches and was able to average 17 with an ER of 4.6 runs per overs. He not only has the pace but is accurate unlike the other quickies.

Another proof is the recent tourney in OZ where he was the best bowler without using the new ball.
Varun could be the superman we are looking for.

THE KOHLI-GAMBHIR POETIC SYMPHONY IN FULL FLOW
by damodaran mohan on Oct 18, 2011 12:46 PM

So the second win happens to be more spectacular! Easily it must be one of the best ever wins for India qualitatively. Kohli-Gambhir duo had virtually set a symphony in motion. Simply awesome, never seen such cold and clinical execution right from the start to finish w/o taking any risk and still maintaining the run rate all through. No words to express this win. There is important lesson to be learnt by youngsters like Parthiv Patel and A Rahane who always seem to be in a tearing hurry to return to pavilion..The young Indian pace bowling was also a revelation. It only goes to show that talented young men need to be persisted with as seen in case of Vinay Kumar who bowled his best ever bowling so far in his career. The young side needs to be nurtured and built on.

Sachin should never be allowed to don an Indian jersey..
by Michael Angelo on Oct 18, 2011 06:40 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin should never never never be allowed to don an Indian Jersey again. Sachin spoils the team chemistry with his ego. Sachins only looks soft spoken. But he has a huge ego. Without Sachin in the dressing room see how smooth the dressing room is. I hope Sachin is banned from the Indian dressing room. India does not need Sachin, India has Gauti, Viru, Yuvi, Bunty, Dhoni etc. There is no need for Sachin in the team.

Idiot, where is the question of Sachin being there in the current team? He is not there due to injury. Don't pass random comments on great players. Take their names with respect. Read the heading of the column and stick to it.

I dont think it is his ego but his selfishness while playing. He is otherwise a good fellow to have as far as i can see.

Real test is in Australia

Winning in India is not a big deal or testimonial to India team talent. Real test is in Australia. Who are or will be really good in pace bowling, spin bowling, batting will be known in Australia.
