its possible if the pay has been called off that day and the next day, he would have been called to bowl the first over.

Its not possible that way, the bowler who bowled last over previous day is not eligible (in the same innings) to bowl the first over next day. If fresh innings is being started on the fresh day (declaration overnight leading to followon) it is a different matter.
The figures that jinx a batsman has a lot to do with psychology. The world over, 13 is a bad number and a batsman gets edgy when he reaches that figure. If in England 111 is the dreaded figure Nelson, more batsman get out when either the team total or individual score touches this figure. It is not necessary that the wicket falls on this score, but touching that figure brings bad luck. But in Australia, 87 is the figure. I am sure statistics will show that in different countries, the local superstition holds sway!

And no one would forget Umpire Dicky Bird's one-two steps quick dance whenever the score 111 figured!
