The decision to put in Lanka in that match was surprising to most people. Subsequently Azhar was caught in the fixing row and had to be suspended. This was sufficient for one and all to believe that the match was rigged. Kambliu making allegations now, after 15 years, may be questionable. But, this 15 year issue should not be used as an alibi to divert attention. Cricket lovers do need an answer to the allegation.
To the questions raised by Ganguly, he must be told that in such corruption cases there cannot be any proof. They could be a lot of circumstantial evidence and in this particular case, there indeed was.
If this match was fixed then it was a good decision. The finals after this match were in Pakistan and that too against Australia. Winning that match was next to impossible. Indian cricketers did not want to go to Pakistan... simple. Imagine India lifting the World Cup in Pakistan... not possible.
i think match fixing is fine...at the end of the day people watch cricket for entertainment...just like movies...even if match is fixed people still enjoy the shots played etc. etc.....so purpose is solved...why bother who fixed matches...as long as we got entertained...just forget and watch it like movies...nobody's life is affected by watching these games
I still remember how he over-acted when match referee stopped that match due to crowd problem. He was not ready to walk away from the pitch and he cried a lot. In fact, after hearing all these fixing stories now, I feel that Kambli had been part of this entire scam in the past and he over-acted during semis (which wouldn't have been fixed, obviously) to prove the point that he is the only right guy among other corrupt guys :-)
Whatever is the truth for that particular match may not be know for sure ever but one thing is clear to everyone that Azhar was a big match fixer... if you look at the matches played particularly in sharjah and lot of otherr matches it was clearly visible that the matches are fixed... Azhar used to drop those catches which he can catch with closed eyes... Jadeja used to try his level best to get as many batsmen runout as possible by first running and then turning back from midway... it was very clear so the moral of the story is that match fixing should be made a criminal offence as it is actually fooling crores of spectators and nations pride... these guys like Azhar and jadeja should be sent to jail for 10-15 years... which will teach future players some lessons...or else this menace will continue to grow..
