His achievements are on a under-prepared pitch. Definitely he can go places. But for that he has to work hard and add more variety into his armory so that he can take wickets on all sorts of tracks.
all those who think he got attitude, think again, he is not the one to write off saying one match player, he got the traits and tricks of spin bowling, he always thinks taking wickets, good to see.
Well done, lad. Saying right things at the right time is at least as important as pitching the ball in the right areas. Harbhajan Singh knows this. He managed to stay in the team despite performing below par for a long time, because he never missed an opportunity to praise Tendulkar. Don't get me wrong. Both Tendulkar and Dravid though past their primes, are legends, and idolising them can do you no harm.
He is lucky to get a helpful pitch and to bowl to rookies when it comes to playing spin. Hope he becomes the next kumble. He looks like a thinking bowler.

Arrey Jaiho-ji, did you read the first line of the post properly? The first line reads "patience was the key to his success on an unresponsive wicket in the first Test against the West Indies, at the Ferozeshah Kotla". This was born out by the fact that WI made 300 plus with only the spinners Pragyan and Ashwin sharing six wickets between them. Obviously this pitch is not conducive either to good bowling nor good batting. But typical of Kotla wickets this one gets flatter as the days progress, which is born out by India's improved batting performance which sees them being on the verge of victory. Look before you leap, Jaiho!!!

See he said this also (this is my second post): "I have never played on such a wicket. There was nothing on the wicket for the batsman as well as the bowlers. I have not seen such a wicket, which was so unresponsive to my variations.
I too had said the same thing - that the wicket had nothing for the batsmen or the bowlers.
"You have to be patient and work hard, bowl wicket to wicket. Strategically, I increased my speed of delivery a bit and used variations," he said.
and were hyped before they consistently performed. On the other hand great Kumble was not given any big coverage and he slowly and steadily started performing to become India's greatest spinner. This Ashwin guy seems to have attitude even before his test debut.

Kumble never spun the bowl. He was a disciplined bowler who hardly gave any width to the batsmen to hit, just like a McGrath who was more of a line and length bowler. They both built their career around accuracy and consistency.
Its time we stop exposing someone in public unless we are sure that he is a consistent performer. Its too premature to interview Ashwin just after his first test success.

what to do? This is typical indian attitude. We make or break players with a few matches. We have so many examples of overnight heroes like hrishikesh kanitkar, mohd kaif, etc ..........................:.....

Today lot of news channels, websites, TVs etc. They dont have news to telecast 24 hrs & dont have work. So,they publicise non sense news also as sensational news. Common word is breaking news. This will spoil youngsters and thier careers. Once news channels interview them, they think great and stop their efforts and think they are heroes. Next day they will be zeores. This is fate of India today.
Play at least 50 test matches. Bag 200 odd wickets and then brag. Indian wickets which turn like tops and opposition as poor as West Indies are probably not the best place for your bragging rights.
Prove yourself in Australia and then talk BIG!!! I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into the shadows in a year or two as many spinners have and he's not even as half talented as Laxman Sivaramakrishnan.

He isnt actually bragging here . If you see all his comments , what hes trying to say is that he feels blessed to play with Sachin and Dravid . He just used the wrong word . Personally , I feel he is talented enough to have a long career . Laxman Sivaramakrishnan spoiled his own career through drugs , so his talent isnt much of a guide .

Sunil,
Thanks for your comment. Well, then he should try and correct his english a bit and not try and pick up terms on the fly and use them in the woring places.
However, with Siva, he did destroy his career but as far as talent goes, he was way way talented than this guy.
That's what I am trying to re-iterate that let him have a few more tests under his belt and we can all seriously start considering him as a player of quality.
For now, its a waiting game and I won't mind if he proves me or somebody else wrong.

Siva was a real talent wasted. It is too early to comment about Ashwin. It is not his fault-these days media creates an unnecessary hype. The future can only tell whether Ashwin can consistently perform or not.

Laxman had a general weak ness of bowling full tossess, so when it gets a but bad, it all goes to drains. Drugs are another matter again, but there has been a weakness in his bowling. Ashwin is in the style of Kumble, I think he has better control and variety than Laxman,
