Dhoni batting position
by ASHISH KUMAR on Nov 08, 2011 12:34 AM

Only best batsman of any team open batting in ODI/T-20 & bats at no.3 or no.4 in test.
It is a hard known fact.
Dhoni started his career as opener only with some success also agianst b grade pak bowling on indian pitch. But once his limited batting ability was exposed, he was not alloowed to do opening.
Now after he took captaincy- still he couldn\'t dare to open inning in any format of game because he himself knows about his limited batting ability & it is not good for his team. He doesn\' dare to open even in IPL. he knows it is most difficult thing to do is opening & playing in top order & he can\'t survive there against quality bowler. Even parthiv patel can do better opening than ordinary dhoni.
Make dhoni opener in all format of game- his carrer will finished within 1 yrs as he will never last more than 2 overs agianst quality bowling.
Batting at his position is easiest thing to do.
In IPLmany of captains & wicketkeeper like sachin, gambhir, patel, gilly, sangarkara, mclumn, etc has opened the ining but dhoni never dared to do it because of his team interest( he knows he can\'t last long & opener has large role to play in any win in ODI/T-20)

He is a mediocre keeper
by pradeep agarwal on Nov 07, 2011 07:32 PM  | Hide replies

The ex players may have good reasons including assignments with BCCI to praise him but his keeping has never been to the mark. The biggest reason for flop show in England was his retched keeping that made bowlers very insecure. He must have dropped a dozen easy catches in test series besides stumping. He is a very good captain & ODI batsman but an average test batsman.

So, can you explain how dhoni has 200 wickets in only 62 tests, while our supposedly greatest wicketkeeper kirmani has 198 in 88 tests?? Also if you look at the statistics, among indian keepers dhoni has the highest number of wickets per match (if you exclude people who have played less than 10 tests).

Pradeep you mostly right, apart from average test batsmen which I disagree, you need to bear in mind Dhoni hardly gets chances to bat long in a test match with his number he has bat with tail more often than not,Dujon has his boxes to tick but what he said is right, Dhoni is one of the modern day greats and perhaps the best when it come to a package in the world,Dhoni's keeping in Test cricket is a work in prgress and I sure he himself admitted that !!

Dude, Gilly is a legend. Dhoni is no way near to him in keeping or batting but Dhoni has better leadership than Gilly. I would like to see Dhoni improves in what Gilly is strong.
