BCCI RELUCTANCE ON RTI TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE
by damodaran mohan on Nov 05, 2011 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

Ok, BCCI need not come under the ambit of the sports ministry but what is the problem in accepting to come under the ambit of RTI ? After all BCCI sends National side to participate in international meets and has availed of Govt.’s largesse, whether it is play grounds or other amenities making it accountable to public. Thus the autonomy part has to be limited to its functioning w/o govt. interference but cannot claim total immunity from public accountability. If BCCI wants it can keep out certain aspects like Team selection etc. out which are likely to impinge on its autonomy but agree for keeping all other matters especially financial aspects to be brought under RTI.BCCI must understand that it is the 21st century of the modern age of liberal management practices that allow complete transparent functioning of any organisation that has public ramifications. But to say on the one hand that it wants "good governance and transparency" and on the other to refuse to accept RTI is typical double speak of a powerful oligarchi which believes in 'closed system' of working away from public gaze of the bygone eras. Such a system of working has the inherent danger of falling into corrupt ways giving rise to factional fights within the organisation.
