Actually it is transition time for Indian Cricket with commercial ventures like IPL taking roots gradually. Transition time is always painful with confusion prevailing because the various parameters have not been fully set. That is why BCCI has immense responsibility to take control of things and remove all the confusion by coming up with proper plans and systems that makes the club vs. country debate irrelevant. One of the reasons why BCCI is so defensive on the issue is because of their one weakness—N Sreenivasan, the office bearer and owner of CSK .This is their Achilles heels , the vulnerable place where the BCCI critic and media invariably hit. Without this weakness may be BCCI would have been better placed in defending the issue. On the other hand , oldies like Bedi and others will have to change with time otherwise they would look like Museum pieces soon. As far as Gavaskar is concerned he is very flexible and speaks to suit him and the occasion.
The Indian cricket stars are what they are because of certain pathetic souls know as "FANS". They spend out of their thin wallets to buy tickets and gather in thousands to watch and cheer the 'players' whom they worship as national heroes. For a nation which doesn't have much to cheer in sports or in anything else for that matter, the attitude of some of its greatest cricketers have been a huge let down.
1. During the days of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, there was no IPL. Hence they cannot make a virtue of the Hobson's choice they had.
2. If love of country comes first for Gavaskar, he and his son Rohan should not associate themselves with IPL to blah blah their expert comments on TV channels. They should confine themselves to commenting about official games of BCCI.
3. If country comes first for Gavaskar, he should not have sat on the governing council of IPL nor been avaricious to ask BCCI to pay him Rs.15 crores to sit on GC and do nothing.
4. IPL is very much a project / product of BCCI and not of some individuals or corporates. Its introduction has thrown limelight nationally on several talented players like Tirumalasetty Suman, Paul Valthaty, Swapnil Asnodkar, Siddarth Trivedi, Srinath Arvind, Iqbal Abdulla, Naman Ojha, Pragyan Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Vinay Kumar .. the list is growing with each edition of IPL.
5. Even without IPL, both BCCI and ICC are (ir)responsible for proliferation of cricket matches globally. Earlier ICC had only one ICC event - ODI WC (50 overs) once in 4 years. Then they added the Champions Trophy. Now they have added T20 WC. Bilateral series have also increased since 1980s with the addition of teams like Srilanka, South Africa and Bangladesh to the list of test playing countries. Thank God that Zimbabwe is in shambles and no country wants to travel to Pakistan. Otherwise the number of tests and ODIs would have become unbearable

6. In this scenario, I think it makes sense for BCCI / national selectors themselves to rotate the players to avoid excessive burnout of individuals.
7. There should be no need for players like Dhoni, Sachin, Sehwag, Zaheer etc. to ask permission from BCCI to rest them. BCCI should be sensible and give adequate rest to the players by a proper, whims free and non adhoc policy of rotation.
8. Francises are commercial entities who have invested huge amounts and hence they should be free to pick any of their players for any number of IPL matches as they desire. It is only the BCCI / ICC matches for which rotation policy should be applied by BCCI.
This should be the end of discussion on this topic and we should move forward, ignoring the selfish and egoistic comments of disgruntled past players (of course I am not including Kapil Dev in this list because his approach seems sensible) like Gavaskar and Tony Greig.

Mr. Vikadakavi
Treating cricket as business only decreases interest among people. Watever you think and write, Nothing can match when an exciting test match between India and South Africa is held.
ofcourse, so called wise men like you dont know the value of this as you are carried away by Mallyas and preitys and consider them real ambassadors of the Game!
how many people would have known gambhir or for say sachin if they would have played for county or club, but people know them because they have made our country proud by ther performance,mr.kapil please don't do all this for cheap popularity.you have great image in india don't spoil it.

don't use foul language against India's best cricketer ever..
BCCI itself is a self-governing body. It is also a club-we can say. Media is creating unnecessary controversy. Don't forget, the players just won world-cup for us. Don't say they are not interested to play for the National team. Ridiculous!!!

Mr. Not Nice Not Wise Guy,
Do militaries face war one after the other throughout the year?
Do they have bilateral wars and UN sponsored wars by turn?
If the IAF consists of say 50,000 personnel, do all of them actually go and wage war? Or, are they sent a small groups as per the needs, as per the potential of enemy's threat and ability to cause damage etc.?

haha Good question, but there are two aspects here
1.All cricketers(assume anyone) is not equivalent to a SINGLE Jawan in Army. Jawans are ready to sacrifice their life, while our Cricketers take rest for even a minor injury.
2.Army there is no selection to send for a war. Entire battalion is sent for war unlike cricket where there are selection committee having a fine tuned selection approach to favour a region

Good answer..but first thing is -Injuries are different aspect..if a player is seriously injured, he cant play cricket..forget club or country! lets assume that cricketer is also like soldier representing a country..then if he is selected..say..does he have choice or liberty to play a certain series only and skip the other series? Things seem to be like this..The less imp WI tour is neglected by some seniors and they want to play for ENG series...but soldiers cant afford this!
if you r indian, the best dearm is to get tht blue. but now cricketer are taking tht cap & then they reprsesnt the rich clubs.... i m indian first....wt about you all cricketer...?
