The day is not far away, but....
by Krishnakumar Narayanan on May 19, 2011 12:39 AM

Once Sachin retires from cricket, there will be a huge drop in cricket's popularity in India. But... when will he retire??????? Anyway, after that Day, Tony (if still alive as of me) can do something to end Indian domination in Cricket.

Tony Greig - White Supremacist..deal with today's reality..
by DarthVader on May 18, 2011 10:11 PM  | Hide replies

Cannot stomach the fact that England (and their lackey Australia) no longer dominate the gentleman's game (read white gentleman's game) like they did before, with the colored folks knowing their place under their sun.

DEAL WITH IT TONY, Deal with it, times are a changin..

DarthVader:

;-)... Very racist comment.

More so becoz you are totally disregarding WHAT he has to say. You are only concentrating on WHO is saying it, and what colour his skin is.

Very racist... :)

I am glad you noticed it, you colonized brown saheb. You can't even realize if someone is being insulting in their comments. You are so used to submitting to the white man I guess.

India's domination
by Vishant Patil on May 18, 2011 06:17 PM  | Hide replies

England and Australia dominated the world cricket in the past, then now why not India?
Lot of foreign players like Vettori are asking for the separate window for IPL, so that they can play in the IPL without loosing their own country matches.

Vishant Patil:

I dont' remember when (during the time England and Australia were dominating) did ICC allow either Kerry Packer or the English County to unethically push their domestic schedules into the International schedules?
I'd be very much interested in knowing if such was the case...

tony is right!

it is ridiculous when your country is playing with another country, you are playing in another country' domestic cricket. the IPL not only destroys other country' cricket but also the indian domestic film industry.

Tony Greig....in ICC Governing Body ?
by Ravi Om on May 18, 2011 11:53 AM  | Hide replies

Is Mr Greig in the ICC Governing Body or is there any plan to do so...if not then why on earth is he commenting on such a issue. Though whatever he has expressed has some weight but is the IPL begging for international stalwarts to come and decorate the game here in India. Or is it simply dollars that is pulling them up. Moreover on what ground are the respective boards issuing NOCs to their players don't they know about their national commitments.
OK it is understood that IPL is too much of cricket but if the players are so committed then they should reject such offers and concentrate on their Test status. So Mr.Greig it is not only the Indian board that you should point your fingers on...do visualize all the aspects involved.

he is basically frustated by not getting selected in the commentator panel of the IPL.

Ravi Om:

Tony's comment is on BCCI's attempts to include IPL into ICC's tour schedules...

OK it is understood that players should be committed and should reject such offers, but that surely doesn't justify BCCI's attempts to include a domestic tournament into the International Cricket Committe's match schedules...

How can we judge that so easily? If something helps the game of cricket, the players and the spectators/fans, then give it a chance, atleast discuss it out.

It's not that we always have to follow others. If something like that has not been done before, lets set a precedence.

OK. It justifies even Ranji Trophy, Irani Trohphy and Harris Shield to be placed on the "International" Cricket Council's calendar... after all lets set a precedence... ;-)

cricket is dying
by interpot@rediffmail.com on May 18, 2011 11:38 AM

Indian domination has made the game of gentleman to game of upper ca*stes. Indian board's aim is to create condition in which batsmen(uc) can exploit bowlers. Bowlers work hard, batsmen get records. That is the idea. The comment of Tendulkar that he should be provided "sporting" wicket is symptom of ailing cricket.

Tony, address real issues
by Jagdish Bhagchandani on May 18, 2011 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

The views of Tony Greig on IPL have some merit. In fact there has been an overdose of IPL tournament and the duration of the same needs to be shortened. However Mr. Greig has forgotten (or chosen to forget) that India has always been at the receiving end of biased ICC. People like Ricky Ponting, Glen McGarth, Michel Slater etc. with their innumerable number of on-field misbehaviors have got away with mild or no punishments, whereas Indians in this regard have been handed over stricter punishments (Saurav Ganguly, M.S. Dhoni have been handed over match suspensions). Recall the case of Shane Watson vs. Gautam Gambhir spat. Gambhir was handed over one test ban and Watson got away with a miniature cut in his match fees. Or that infamous Mike Deness episode in South Africa, where 3-4 Indian players were punished for ‘excessive appealing’ and Shaun Pollock got away without any notice inspite of employing higher frequency and db level of appealing. What a shame it was! Greig needs to address these issues rather than this so called Indian domination in cricket. Even if it is so (I mean Indian domination), so what? Why is he feeling jealous?

I agree with you on mostly one point of overdose of IPL. It should be shortened for say 15 days.. and that will be okay for the foreign players as well.. Hence no need to dig out a window !!!

seperate window for IPL ?
by battu on May 18, 2011 11:00 AM

i think tony is right.if the ipl needs a window then why not for the county championships in england which is the graduation level for cricketeers.after all ipl is just domestic cricket played with the paticipation of overseas players. the players should decide which is important, their country or the club. do you think the bcci would allow our players to play in some other countries domestic tournament when they have national duty?
