Valthaty should be here as he is in top 5 scorer and his performance is better than Rayayadu or Badribnath.

While selecting a team, the selectors need to see the consistency of the players. Eg. Asnodkar was at peak during the 1st IPL. But he is now no where. Like wise Parameshwaran who was praised for bowling in one match against Delhi. IN the next match his conceded 37 runs in one over.
So we need to look out how consistent is Valthaty before selcting. In that aspect Rayudu and Badrinath are far more consistent than other youngsters or new players.
where they need to give chance to promising youngsters like Rayudu, Rahul sharma, badri, Tiwary etc who have been playing well in IPL. T20 is not the criteria to judge player's ability but an opportunity and see how it goes.

Dude do you think they selected Piyush Chawla and Sreesanth in the World cup squad because they are tamilians? Vijay fared better in Ranji trophy at that season and also played decently in 2010 IPL so they had given him which he didn't utlize so they kicked him out. Stop blaming Srikanth for telling he is supporting Tamilnadu all the time, they are giving chances thats it.
Senior players should play more International games than IPL - this includes players like Dhoni. See Sehwag...played IPL and not available for West Indies tour...what if we had Aussie tour after IPL?

Rahane averages abotu 65 in domestic, has performed well in the IPL opportunties he got so far. More than anything he seems to have an array of strokes, good sound technique etc...
Is it becasue he is from mumbai?
I agree Badri should get chance aherad of him but its surprising that he isn't even being considered... But not so sure about Rayudu (a predominant leg side specialist) especially is we atre takign about ODIs/Tests.
If its T20..yes Rayudu better than most..
Simple test of a good batsman to me: The ability to play cover drives, square cuts and straight drives, pulls.
Sorry slog sweep is a good ammo to have for for T20 but not so much Test and ODI..

Rahane is like rahul dravid more fitted to test then ODI. Presently after having Gambhir and kohli ( and dhoni who play slowly nowdays) in the ODI team we need some stroke players like yuvraj rather then player like Rahane. Saurabh Tiwari or Valthaty is good option

I guess Rahane is an opening batsman and can take Sehwag's place. If Paul Valthaty had maintained consistency, he would have got that place. Even if Dhoni is rested, Parthiv Patel is a better choice than Rayudu as a backup wicketkeeper. Badrinath is a middle order batsman who deserves a place in the squad independant of others.

i really think it is time for vvs rahul and sachin to let these young guys come into the team. not that their skills have diminished , but they have nothing more to achieve in game is how i see it. this even answers your question as to why rahane and a few other youngsters have failed to find a chance.

I think that Ashwin created history (though not sure if there is a precidence) which never got repeated. In ODI world cup match he bowled 10 overs and every one of them was in powerplay. Bowling the enitre quota in powerplay in his first World Cup match tells something about this man. Give him his due.

Judging player by IPL performance is wrong. Aswhin is a proven performer on international stage and Rahul just came on stage. Watch hin for next IPL. also he was not heard much on Domestic scene. Every EPl trows some hero but they vanished after that. Consistency is major problem with such player and consistency is important in international matches
