Ganguly sacrificed his Batting for captaincy! Is that a sacrifice? He was not up to the mark for the likes of Lee, Akthar and used to fear them like a calf. He might have done good to himself, but I don't think he was any better cricketer. Just an average politics monger

Captaincy in cricket is an exhausting work off the field and on the field, buddy! Those who know cricket and atleast play in First class cricket know it. I played to UP in Ranji for two years and I know it first hand.

Since you talked about his batting against fast bowling, I give only one example. Watch how Ganguly tore the heart out of Flitoffs chest when he opened the innings in that great ODI final that India thrillingly won in England. People remember the last batsman i.e. Yuvraj and Kaif. But watch how Ganguly had set it up.

If he scared of fast bowling he wouldnot have opened in ODIs. His best came as an opener in ODIs.

Every batsman goes through out of form patches particularly if you play the game longer and Sourav is no exception.

Captaincy is not something ordinary men can understand and this is not recorded in statistics like batting or bowling.

When you stretch your career for 20 years any batsmans averages and statistics will look good.

Ponting achieved higher runs even while captaining unlike Sachin who gave up captaincy for his batting-ditto with Rahul Dravid.

Australians are the Bes
by Human on Mar 28, 2011 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

Australians are the Best

Since 1999 they won all 3 consequetive WC.
After 2007 they are playing without their best 5 greats like Warne, Gilly, Hayden, Symonds, Mcgrath, they are difficult side to beat in their home soil.

In this WC even they won all their matches before they lose to Pak and India and out of the WC.

But any way they are the best side, little arrogant too.

No great player can continue life long.Since 2007 India also lost services of ganguli, kumble, dravid(one day) even graet tendulkar plays only selected one day matches.fact is Australia could not bring up new talents up to the standars.

Wrong Pal, Pakistanis were the ones who first hunted and devoured the Aussies in Colombo. India just feasted on leftovers.

Total wastage of time.
by S Shrikanth on Mar 28, 2011 12:21 PM  | Hide replies

Rediff has gone crazy. It has been wasting time on Ponting for the last 3 days.

What we Indians need to be concerned with an Australian cricketer. Let him do whatever he wants. Its none of our business.
