Dont compare yourself with Tendulkar
by pkminspector@rediffmail.com on Mar 29, 2011 10:29 AM

Tendulkar besides being a wonderful batsman is a great human being,a man who loves cricket as his religion and has always played for cricket and India. He knows what is sportsmanship.Ponting is far behind in all these aspects of the game. Not only in runs but also in sportsmanship,he is way behind Sachin. If the game has ever seen God,then its sachin, sachin, and only Sachin.

Ponting .... way to go, mate !
by Cedric Vaz on Mar 29, 2011 10:05 AM  | Hide replies

Ricky Ponting has done it all and should not compare himself to Sachin Tendulkar. He has had a long innings as a successful Captain unlike Tendulkar who could not handle the pressure of Captaincy and so relied on his only strength which is that of being a technically correct and sound batsman. So Ricky enjoy your twilight years now only as a batsman much the same way that Tendulkar did albeit a bit too early in his career !

Ponting should have step down from the captancy before ASHES, if he would have done it he will be remembered him as a best captain like steve waugh.

Ponting Rebirth...
by Jaiho on Mar 28, 2011 09:03 AM

That is how these mind-driven people talk to pep themselves up. Motivation has to come from reserves within, which Tendulkar had in plenty. Won't be surprised if this same Ponting announces retirement in another few months. Motera pitch didn't really test him. He is imagining that he has got back to form. Bangla tweakers can end his career. On a better pitch Harbhajan or Zaheer would have gobbled him on that day in quarter-final.

Its too late
by S Shrikanth on Mar 28, 2011 08:58 AM  | Hide replies

I had seen in an old video of 1981 India-Australia series in which Gundappa Vishwanath played a unforgettable innings making 114 when India was in deep trouble. Absolutely flawless against fast bowlers like Dennis Lillie, Len Pascoe. Ponting's innings against India was a true reflection of Vishwanath's innings 30 years back.Simply Superb! Had his bowlers not betrayed him after taking control at 187/5, today Ponting had been the Hero.

However, its too late for him to take a rebirth. Tendulkar threw away captaincy a decade back to pursue personal career. But Ponting, Ganguly, Smith chose captaincy over personal records which destroyed their personal performance. So, its too late for him.

They always had best pace bowling attack and we had spin attack .
hence no one should be compared.

I am amzed at people like you. For everything you need to put some blame on sachin.

Had he not relinquished captaincy, you would have been baying for his blood. Infact there were enough people doing that when he was captain.

I understand your frustration. you being an average joe cannot relate to someone brilliant. hence you relate yourself to average folks because it makes you feel good.

Maybe some therapy is needed in your case. you are the classic example of someone suffering from inferiority complex

No way, I always admired Ganguly for his aggressive captaincy. Although, people like you criticized him for taking off his shirt after winning a match, and he was termed arrogant , but he was the winning captain. Same people are criticizing Dhoni for Non performance, but they forget that he is the winning captain. What else you expect from him?

From your language which has a an explicit personal attack on me, you seems to be frustrated and irritated. If you do not agree then read above paragraph once again and be a friend of mine. :-)

Shrikanth,

This can be looked in another wa y also, Sachin new that by taking off captaincy, he and team can contribute more. Isn't it the case that he recognised himself, and opted out of captaincy?

first pointing has to start behave like Tedulkar, a real gentalman.

Think how he must be behaving now if Poiting was as successful as Tendulkar.

Tendulkar-sort rebirth??!!
by Vivek on Mar 28, 2011 06:57 AM  | Hide replies

IT is really funny to hear when Ponting always tries to compare himself with the Legendary Sachin. All agree that Ponting is a classic batsman, but know that there are more like him. But there are few sportsmen we call Legendary, and Ponting is certainly not in that league.
I won't agree the word "Tendulkar-sort rebirth"... Sachin never had a bad patch in his career. When he failed to make runs in couple of matches, we rate him out of form. Eventually he used to fire in the 3rd or fourth match of the series, unlike other players who don't play for 3-5 series.

Average of Sachin in 2004 to 2006 is 51 in tests yes but in between he had slightly prolonged dry spells.

Very well said Vivek. I agree with you that Sachin had never a bad patch in his carrer. he was out of form for some time. But he is playing cricket for over 20 yrs as a king. Nobody could reach him. Nobody can be compared with him. Because he is the 'God' of cricket. I salute him.

This guy is cheap to core as usual. Sachine never been in a slump as bad as this guy in any time of his career. Just to glorify himself, he compares with Sachine. As usual Sachine is silent and not bothered to answer or making any statement about Potings form or captaincy.

Tendy's bad patch was from late 2004 - 2006. This was due to the tennis elbow injury. But it is termed a bad patch nevertheless
