ponting may not b in the best of forms, his team may not be as incredible as before, but i know one thing dat yhis man has lead his side consistently to win, scored consistently. In such a long carrer who will have ups and downs, but if we look at his full carrer there has been very few lows.I m not a fan of ponting coz of his arrogant behaviour but if you look from cricketing view he will be remebered as one of the gr8s of the game

absolutely...he had scored runs...he has kept the team intact...they were a good team, now the time has changed...number 1 spot is up for grabs...anybody can grab that spot...the way the srilankans are playing I think they have a very good chance.
Actually Ponting and Buchanan had years instead of a day.
Remove Warne, Gillespie, McGrath, Waughs and company and what you had was a mediocre coach called John Buchanan and a good player but not so great captain called Ponting. The invinciblity factor was luck due to such good players all at the same time in same team.
That's life cycle for all the teams but even more so for the foul mouthed Aussies who used to think they could bully anyone and win.
sachin need to retire from all forms of cricket bcoz he is a selfish player played only for his individual records and now he is a weight for team so selectors need to drop him now

For a moment, let us accept that he is playing for his own records, but the matter of the fact is that he still needs to go out there and perform to get those records! That too for the 21st successive year in front of unexpected levels of expectations and against fierce bowling attack that eye for his prized wicket, even after 21 years!
You have no idea of what it takes to PERFORM!
By your comment, it is evident that you have no idea what it takes to be a successful man!
You are negative, unsuccessful, cynical and resigned in life!
If you do not change your way of looking at things (your attitude), you will waste your life!
better to retire now...as nothing to acheive..member of WC winning squad for 3times and captained in 2 occassions....its time to go...give way to new players...i feel sachin should also retire...as he already acheived everything in 50over cricket except WC.....

but sachin this time will probably achieve his dream. i think he will be part of world cup winning team this time riding piggyback on the performances of youngistan indian team. i think this team is strong enough to carry the dead weight sachin on its shoulders and still win the WC. then blind sachin fanatics will get a chance to say that sachin won the WC single handedly even though it would be because of the performance of the other 10 players.

ritiknair, the fact is sachin is not the only player in the team. there are 10 other players who got out their and perform on the field with passion to win the match for india.

as such you look depressed!
give yourself a break man!!
Learn to appreciate the efforts of the indian players who perform even when sachin fails and inspite of unappreciative fans (?) like you, they still go out and give their best on the ground.
ritiknair it is very unjust and cruel that you only appreciate sachin's flat track records and ignore the performances of other 10 players when the going is tough. even after sachin failures in tough conditions they take the responsiblity on them to take india past the winning line.
and what appreciation do they get in return from fans (?) like you ritiknair?
they have to hear that sachin is a one-man army and sachin is the only good player in the indian team and the rest are all useless!
ritiknair, tell me how would you feel if you are not given any credit for your work and that credit is given to somebody else? would you like that?

Afridi has been doing very well, but his main performances have been against minnows. He is an effective bowler but Umar Gul is THE bowler for Pakistan. He has got consistent early wickets and getting openers is crucial. He is just too hot to handle. I am hoping that Gul does not do it against India.

A truly great innings. I hate the guy personally, but as a batsman he is terrific and this century under pressure in a quaterfinal against Indian spinners when in poor form should his class.
Truly a gem. One of the finest innings I have seen.

I share your feelings about this over-arrogant person, but admire his brilliance with bat and competent captaincy. However I have no ill-feelings about the other great champion - Brett Lee. Brett Lee along with Gillie, Hayden and Warne are truly great human beings, strong characters and outstanding cricketers.
