The low total was compounded for Australia by another failure from Ponting, which provided more evidence that the captain's form resurgence during the practice matches - he score consecutive half-centuries - was an apparition. His departure for 19 took his record so far in the tournament to 102 runs at an average of 20.4
Ponting's latest failure gives him a total of 102 runs at 20.40 in the World Cup, after averaging just 16.14 in this summer's Ashes series.
Ricky Ponting failed again with the bat as defending World Cup champions Australia were bowled out for just 176 in their Group A match against Pakistan.
Australia's chief selector says Ricky Ponting's age will not be a major factor in determining his tenure as Test and ODI captain.
Ponting's 13-month drought without a century has invited criticism that his prowess has waned - he will be 37 in December - but Hilditch implied that age would have little influence on his position in the Test batting order or even in the team.
In the end result, the batting order is up to the captain, so if Ricky is thinking that way, then it might happen, but it's a fair way down the track,'' he said.
Asked if selectors would allow Ponting to determine when he will leave the team, Hilditch said: ''Some players get to go on their own terms at the right times and some don't. I suppose if you're determined to play forever, then at some stage a selector is going to make the hard call.

if you go by numoroly, the total of all years comes in odd number. But add 2011 - it comes to even no. So for a change we are winning this time.

I dont think so..Let see..They won against us in WC 2003 because of Dada's poor captaincy and Ponting's brilliant form...now both things are missing here :-)

In 2003 final Sachin scored 4 runs whereas Ponting scored 141 in 121 balls...Zaheer gave 67 runs in 7 overs with 9.6 runs per over....... Why shamelessly you blame Dada???????????? Dada scored 546 runs in 2003 WC whereas Dhoni has scored 86 runs with avg of less than 20 in 2011 WC...Dhoni performance is shiiiit as Captain??????

No disrespect to Ganguly, He Left Out Laxman and preferred D Mongia and Benched A Kumble and this Selections hurt badly and his runs Come due to Twin centuries against Kenya and 1 against Scotland, nothing to boast about it, yes, Dhoni is worse than Ganguly

correct..and not only ponting his entire team was at its peak. India too did well but were no match for aussies..everyone failed in final..specially bowlers and sachin..shorav should have taken correct decisions.
