INDIA ON COURSE TO WIN THE WC.
by damodaran mohan on Mar 22, 2011 02:49 PM

So,finally Dhoni seems to have zeroed on the best XI to be played for the knock out stages. We can only hope he doesn't try any other new combos and miss the WC bus. Obviously somebody will have to make room for Sehwag but it should not be taken as getting 'dropped'.It is a team game and depending upon the circumstances one fellow will sit out, nothing more. May be the junior most member, Yusuf Pathan among batters will have to sit out because Raina is a better fielder and bowler. And may be given the strong Top four batting order, it will not come up to no.7.position to rescue the team. Now, coming to the last match although Dhoni marshalled his resources well to win but the riddle of batting collapse and BPP persists. It is to the credit of Ashwin that he didn’t crack under the pressure of suddenly playing the first over in his first WC match! Both Zaheer and Bhajji were at their best in this WC played so far. Munaf also bowled better than at Nagpur but he is bowling 'short' too often for comfort. For Yuvi, happy days are here again !

AUSTRALIANS CAN BE BEATEN:
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Mar 21, 2011 04:12 PM  | Hide replies

The best team for the game against Australia is
1.      Sewhag.
2.      Tendulkar.
3.       Virat Kolhi.
4.      Raina.
5.      Yuvraj Singh.
6.      Yusuf Pathan.
7.      Dhoni.
8.      Ashwin.
9.  &nb sp;   Zaheer.
10.      Harbhajan.
11.      S reesanth.

1. Raina should be retained in the place of Gautham Gambhir, who is out of form since September-2009. Also, Raina is a better fielder & useful bowler than Gambhir.
2. Raina should be sent ahead of Yuvraj Singh because Yuvraj has played only against the weaker teams & he cannot force the pace in the middle overs that too against Australian bowlers.
3. Yusuf Pathan should be sent when spinners (Kreja) or Shane Watson operate because he can handle them easily & not in the power plays when Lee or Tait is operating.
4. Munaf patel should in now way be selected because he does not know to Bat, Field or Bowl. In comparison, Sreesanth is a better fielder than Munaf, can score at least 2 runs/hang around & is a much more aggressive/strike bowler than Munaf/Nehra.
5. Also, Ashwin who is a better batsman than Harbhajhan Singh & Zaheer should be sent after Dhoni.
6. Power plays should be taken in-between the 35th & 45th overs when players like Yuvraj or Dhoni are batting, who will not get out. Dhoni in particular who will scrap through & cannot score more than 12 out of 30 balls whether in the power plays or not in the power plays.

Looks good, only thing is if the pitch is a batting paradise then these bowlers will give 300 runs and we don't have batsman to cover the runs.. In any case, against Aus/SA, India will be atleast 30-40 runs even before the 1st ball is bowled as India will give those runs in fielding & our batsman inability to run the runs!!!

How about retaining Pathan instead of Munaf? Why do we need 2 pace bowlers, when they will leak runs.. Pathan will be a insurance in case we lose wkts..

Vikas Banga
Piyush Chawla

Dhoni must play Piyush instead of Munaf against australia.
Motera will be a turner Aussies are all right handers except Hussey.
Playing with only two off-spinners might proof risky. Play with 3 spinners.

Against West Indies
by Abhishek Shukla on Mar 21, 2011 02:59 PM

I think india did some experiment against windies. They tried the spinners, how much they can contain in initial overs. Than gave bowl to medium pacers. Between Pathan and Raina, pathan was good in bowling and batting

It was clear after WI crossed the magic number of 140 , they let go off the match. less than 140 would mean they lose to Bangladesh on run average.the real test (sorry ODI) for India comes aginst the AUSSIES.
