Crucial matches...
by cooldande on Mar 15, 2011 09:24 AM

England-WI match is very crucial and is a MUST win for England also to WI.. Chennai being a spin track, India can be the favourites in the match..

Ideal scenario as per team form:
WI win against England(England out).
SA win against Bangladesh(Bangladesh stays as England is OUT)
India win against WI(SA, India, WI and BD qualify in the same order). India will be B2 and will play A3 in QFs.. Pak vs Australia n NZ vs SL is pending.. These matches will determine A3 who is going to play against India!! Both the goups are heating up to determine the positions and where they play the knockouts..

The ghost powerplay
by French Cuisine on Mar 14, 2011 07:20 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Folks - there is a struggle in the team about the no. 4 batting slot which Kohli should be naturally playing in. Yuvraj has held that position for a long time and has been working very hard to consolidate his place both with bat and ball getting back in form. Now both believe they belong in that position, while Dhoni aggravated that problem by trying to exploit Yusuf power up in the order inspite of Kohli's tremendous success batting up. The conflict intensified in the last match when we all witnessed both batsmen restless to get down after Sach-GG in TC. Then what happens - Yusuf comes down! Something surely was going on back in that dressing room probably the two arguing which Dhoni tried to solve by sending in Pathan. Kohli wants success in every game and didnot like the way he got runout against Ireland(Yuvi did that intentionally?) . The result: everyone was upset, lacks focus, throw their wkts, triggering an unnatural death of a strong batting lineup. Dhoni helplessely witness the whole thing like all of us and makes angry post-match comments. I firmly believe this was the case among other theories of the collapse, as we r all human beings we have emotions. It is quite natural to happen in a star-packed team in top European soccer teams such conflicts are rife. I hope the Indian team emerges from this trouble soon and salute them for performing well inspite of the collapse.

Crucial for WI
by Ravi on Mar 14, 2011 05:18 PM  | Hide replies

India has already qualified for quarter finals and will most probably play Srilanka or Pakistan. India-WI match is crucial for WI as well as for England. there is a race among England, WI and Bangladesh for the 3rd and 4th spot.

If India in their final match lose to the West Indies, who in turn lose to England; Bangladesh win their remaining two games against Netherlands and South Africa and Graeme Smith's side beats Ireland, it would leave three teams (WI, SA and Bangladesh) with eight points apiece, leaving India and England tied on seven points each.

The fourth and final spot will then be decided on Net Run Rate (NRR). India currently have a much better NRR ( 0.768) than England (-0.013), but a big defeat to the Windies and a big win for England can mean end of the road for Dhoni's boys.

South Africa, too, have to win at least one of their remaining two games (Ireland and Bangladesh) to confirm their quarterfinal ticket. If South Africa and the West Indies win their remaining games, India will go through as the third team. On the other hand, if the calypso boys oust England and lose to India, Dhoni and Co will finish 2nd in the group. They may even top it, in case the Proteas falter in one of their matches.

Bangladesh must first beat the Netherlands and hope that Sammy's boys will pull the plug on England before taking on South Africa.

It is as simple, or as complicated as that.

Yes, India is already qualified, see the all permutations and combinations, irrespective of whatever results India has qualified.

1)India can still qualify for the Q/F if they lost to WI. If ENG may beat WI then , India & ENG both may have the equal points & then the NRR will come into play.
2)WI will qualify if they beat India straightaway.
3)SA has 2 more matches left Vs Bangla & Ireland. It will not a tough task for them to quality.
4) Bangla will thru straightaway if they beat SA else they will depend on ENG –WI match.
5) If WI lost to India, ENG and Bangla lost with SA then both WI & Bangla will end up 6 points … but the WI is way head of Bangla in NRR to qualify.
All I can say that the tie vs ENG is turned out tobe crucial for India to Q/F quality
