What is so great in doing this against Zimbabwe ? It could have a news value if Sri Lanka had done it against Australia !

Srilanka (Tharanga and Jayasuriya) also hold the world record for highest opening partnership of 286 runs against England. Learn to appreciate and give credit where it is due.

Srilanka and Records
by Maithreya on Mar 10, 2011 08:48 PM  | Hide replies

These Srilankans and Records are only against weak teams or at home. Ex: Their previous highest score in WC 398 was against Kenya, their highest ODI record of 444 against Holland etc. Very rarely do they have good records outside subcontinent conditions.(Like Maybe Murali geeting wickets in England)Else they will hold some record at home. Aus and SA fought (though the pitch was a belter is another issue)when they scored 434 and 438 in ODI history only to be overtaken by these Lanka's score of 444 against Holland. How farcical...

I agree 100% with your statement on the scores being against weak teams or at home.

However, surprisingly, none of the other 'great' teams have these records...

Let's not steal the thunder sway from the folks who re-defined batting in the first 15 overs.
