A world cup needs to be a WORLD cup and not ICC full members cup. This stupid idea of not allowing minnows to grow is ridiculous. On pure performance only, England should not have been present in this tournament. Best would be to follow the fottball theme and have a full qualifying round. No automatic qualification for the world cup, except the defending champions, and the host nation. Let all others go to the qualifying round and earn their place in the world cup. If there are to be only 10 teams contesting the world cup then it better be the 10 best and most in form team of the WORLD. What is Zimbabwe or Bangladesh or England doing in this world cup ? Ireland and Netherlands are probably better than all these 3 teams.
a good ploy to keep the most lucrative 20-20s and IPL as the only option left for the cricket fans. too much corporatism in cricket will eventually kill it. Cricket fans not only watch the games for the cricket but for patriotism too.
20-20 is for sure a time saver, and all fireworks, but it fails in using the cricketting skill (of classical cricket) of players...all unorthodox and baseball type of game may not go well in long term.
Let the decision to play test, ODI, or 20-20 be left to the fans. As is reported there is sufficient viewership for ODI if properly conducted like WC.
if you are not allowing minnows in game how the game will grow, for all the great cricketting nations were minnows once. But ofcourse the WC can be made more challenging by keeping qualifying round for all the ones who didnt make it to the QF.
ICC should look for globalising the cricket... they shud give fair chances for minnows, thier shud be more this champions trophy for nations like, ireland,bangladesh,zimbabwe,kenya,canada and netherlands, to keep them busy playing better cricket, then the top two teams shud play with weaker full members such as westindies,new zealand. i have heard only compalint from associates is that, they dont play with better teams, how will they improve thier levels ?
