Prospects of the Teams in WC
by srinivas batni on Mar 03, 2011 08:43 AM

All the teams barring Kenya and canada are batting well. Netherlands and Ireland are revealitions.
In the bowling department only Pakistan, Australia, SriLanka ar doing well.
In the fielding aspect, only Australia, South Africa and SriLanka are doing well.
It appears on the strength of these the final should be between Australia and Srilanka.

eng r beaten by ireland their brothers (apart from other brother scotland), forming part of great britain. must b a deal to invite ireland for icc intnl test/odi status.

I don't think at the cost of taking risk at this stage in World cup. If they would have secured their place, yes, they would have taken risk.

india won the match against pak as a result of a tie breaker. so it's technically not a tie. :D

The format is absolutely rubbish !
by Ian Chappell on Mar 02, 2011 01:53 PM

I think there is no need to talk about how teams are shaping up because obviously minnows are now going to give threat to big guys of cricket. I think it is just one question that "will Bangladesh qualify for the last 8 or not?"
Games like WI vs Netherlands, Srilanka vs Kenya and even today's match can't produce any excitement at all. The format of 1999 and 2003 were best. The ICC has taken the right decision in this step to reduce the teams to just 10 in next world cup.
The problem with minnows is that they have 1 or 2 good batsman, when the click teams like Netherlands can score 296 but if these 1 or 2 good batters fails then the situation of the match is just like a cakewalk for big teams ! They also don't have a single quality bowler !
I think these matches are just used for fine tuning by big teams before going for knock out round. So I think the top 8 rank teams will easily qualify for knock out stage, except the Bangladesh suspense who can be a force at home and on any given day they can change the match in their favor against the higher rank teams. They still have 3 big matches i.e. against WI, SA and England and it looks like they have very good chance against all the three if they put up a decent score on board. If they manage to win only one match (which looks a very good possibility) then it will be great for excitement!

The most boring world cup
by Raj on Mar 02, 2011 01:50 PM

This world cup is one of the most boring world cup with second grade teams being included resulting in a one sided match. World cup foot ball is much much better where all the teama are atleast top class and there is not a huge difference betweens the playing standards.
