A wasted talent

Lawrence Rowe was a phenomenal talent who never really achieved what he should have. A double century and century on debut, one the few (maybe the only) triple century scored in tests in the 1970s, he should have achieved much more than he did. I believe he was hit in the eye by a beer bottle by one of his team mates at the start of the tour of India in 1974-75 for which the eye had to be operated upon. He was never the same batsman after that. In a team having the phenomenal batting talents of Richards, Greenidge, Lloyd and Kallicharan, he never got to get back and cement his place in the side.

Omce Viv Richards has indirectly thanked Lawrance Rowe for his concrete place in WI.I Team saying that, because of Rowe's retirement due to eye sight prlblem, he got the chance in the team of Indian tour of 1974-75
