THERE IS NO 100% FOOL PROOF TECHNOLOGY,STUPID
by damodaran mohan on Jun 18, 2011 02:17 PM

Indians especially the BCCI is very foolish. It is just trying money power bullying, nothing else. BCCI or Sachin or Dhoni must understand that there is nothing like 100% fool proof technology when it comes to the UDRS. At every advanced stage the accuracy improves and so it is a question of settling for the balance between the marginal benefit vs the increased expenditure. Why not ICC carries out this study and implement the final decision that would be binding on all. Another alternative is to leave out LBW decisions for the time being till a final consensus is arrived at and apply UDRS for other decisions like 'close catches, bat snick etc.

A caliberated reversal
by chatter on Jun 18, 2011 12:55 PM  | Hide replies

I think Sachin's statement is a part of a caliberated effort by the BCCI to reverse their stand on the DRS. It has been made to look a fool in front of the whole world and now wants to change its stance. They will say if it is OK with the players then they have no objection etc etc. Anyway, let us hope that good sense prevails, however belated.

Sachin made similar statement long time ago. I do agree with Sachin, there is no point using UDRS without hot spot and snickometer.

Hawk eye is something which simulate the line of travel of the ball based upon the pace and bounce of the pitch.
It will not verify the point of contact with the batsmen.
However Hotspot and Snicko are used to determine the point of contact and evidence of nicking the ball by the batsmen which provides much conclusive decision to make.

Hence avoiding controversy like one in WC with Yuvi's kind of decision can be avoided

During World Cup also many decisions were LBW decisions were overturned due to HAWK EYE technology. But I think there will always a question regarding LBW decision on a swinging bowl or a full toss spin bowl. How HAWK EYE can predict contact of a ball with the wicket on a spin full toss ball?

High resolution cameras with HDTV
by D S on Jun 18, 2011 07:05 AM

read below for entire reasons behind rejecting DRS, etc.

AT THE MOST , WE CAN ALLOW UMPIRE TO SEE THE ACTION REPLAY IN HDTV based on current japanese system available in market(exactly what people see), but say NO TO DRS because the base technology can be tempered, calibrated or manipulated like current process of EVMs. Lot of ghoras are taking performance enhancing drugs, this is what ICC is not checking.

Even the Umpire who are bribed or have allegiance to ghoras support DRS will make wrong decisions in matches on purpose such as to force DRS, but BCCI should endorse ACTION REPLAY ON HDTV as the way for referral.
