If i m not wrong he was also in india advertising for telecom co. IDEA cellular with Imran Khan, Kapil Dev & Lloyds.
Now i think as he was not involved in IPL he is angry. As every SL player bathed in wealth during IPL>
Sorry Rana Better luck next time.

He is Correct
by Jatin Das on Jun 02, 2011 01:02 PM  | Hide replies

I see many people are advocating for BCCI & condemning Ranatunga for his hate reaction on BCCI. He is absolutely correct. Its not that its the players who have the option to play in IPL or not its about creating a good cricketing environment. Currently by creating IPL, BCCI has only filled in its own pocket & of the players who are participating in it. Though its an optional thing for a player to choose whether to play in IPL or not, but if all the star players will opt out of IPL then it will loose its popularity & hence the money. But by participating in IPL where around 50-60 matched are played within 2 months it makes the good players stressed & prone to injuries forcing them out of ODIs & Test matches which is their national duty. It also distracts players from Test Cricket which is the best form of Cricket. The real class, character & mental strength is tested in Test format. How many of these youngsters playing in IPL who are hitting sixes & fours can make a good impact in Test cricket & taht too for a long time like the greats of Dravid, VVS, Sachin, Steve Waugh, Shane Warne, Lara??

So BCCI must reduce the number of ODI matches & totally scrap IPL. IPL is useless.

@ Jatin ,, if u try to give a closer look at the response of the people, u will surely acknowledge that its not the international players whom our people have been supporting or who r giving a shine to this event but its just the batting & bowling prowess which is faschinating all ,, thats what I had commented earlier that even we want our own boys to perform so that we may woo for them ,, let any city/village boy come up with good antiques then surely he will be the most priced in the next tournament ,,
will u tell the same thing when movies r released that producers just wanna fill their own pockets ,, no ,, coz we know that whoever wishes to see the movie will see & who wants to avoid will avoid ,, so also the matches r being watched who all r interested (which is actually in millions, lol) .. so let that be ,, y worry who is filling their pockets ,,
& players very well know how to keep themselves fit ,, even we work 12 months a year but that does not mean we should take a break every 1 month or 2 months ,, all r working & enjoying ,,

@Sayed - See I am not concerned about who is filling the pockets. I am concerned about loosing world class & good players from the longer format of the game. You are right about giving the example of a movie. But thi sis different. IPL creates the lust & hunger to earn money in the minds of the players & who does not love to earn more & more money even if they had already sufficient of it. Thats why they are not able to resist their wish to earn more & insoite of knowing that they will be tired & injured after IPL they are participating in it. The best examples are Malinga, Flintoff & Symonds. It would have been a traet to watch these class players to continue playing TEST cricket for longer time, but all of them are retired now.

ranatunga's comments
by Milind Deo on Jun 02, 2011 12:47 PM  | Hide replies

during the wrld cup 2011 ranatunga was all praise for india and the way it is holding commond which is also helping other asian countries also to geta pie of the chunk.

now suddenly he found out that ICC is under india's thumb.

i think however big influence india can have on ICC still the indian team, india players, umpires never ever benifitted from this.

infact all the international match refrees and umpires have always gone against india in the matches which were going tight and the possible decision from the umpire / match refree has gone to the other side. however unsporting or wrong the decision was.

secondly, if sri lanka or any other asian country doesnot have a dalmia, abindra or a certain sharad pawar who are staunch cricket lovers and great organisers then its just not india's fault.

also if sri lanka feels strongly just like ranatunga then please ask their players to stop playing IPL, stop their umpires from officiating in IPL, and more importantly stop sri lankans from coming to india for commentary and special experts.

if ranatunga has the ball let him do this first.

see if you can't get something then find out why and try to get that rather than cribbing about others.

Nice Comment., But these people like Ranatunga, Tong Greg doesnt have any job to do. They are not part of their countries board team. So to create some kind of hype they are doing this.If you ask them not to come to India as umpires, experts etc.. then they have nothing to do for Food.

sour grapes
by Syed Rizvi on Jun 02, 2011 12:36 PM

ranatunga ka taanga budda hogaya & that is y he is up against BCCI (IPL) ,, coz he cannot play & get those bucks ,, coz his country-mates gave importance to IPL more than their own country does not mean that India is at fault ,, his country & his people r responsible themselves ,,
& what will anybody expect from neighbours of India ,, only ill-will ,, was ICC flying this much earleir with less influence of India ,, NO ,, but because of Indian influence & management has ICC & Cricket in general been accepted in many places ,,
ofcourse even we do not want club-based game but IPL is summer special ,, shouldnt be a problem ,, let others not come ,, even we want own own boys to come out with better show ,,
sri lanka just wants to oppose Indian supremacy & is following pak(osama)stan to its own end ..
