It is indeed very disappointing to note that
by Joy Gupta on Jun 01, 2011 01:31 PM

BCCI did not call upon the first World Cup winning Captain Kapil Dev to honour the current World Cup winning members.

Instead BCCI president Shasank Manohar & Secretary Srinivasan gave away the mementos.

Who the hell are Manohar & Srinivasan. Except being in BCCI positions (which they got for their association with the corrupt Sharad Pawar and not for any other quality) what credentials they have to be present in such a forum?

Neither of them has played even first class cricket. It is a pity that politicians rule in this country and true heroes are ignored.

Shame on you BCCI!!

Shameful function
by satarupa sen on Jun 01, 2011 01:28 PM  | Hide replies

The way the function was conducted was like a joke. Kapil Dev was not accorded the minimum courtesy of a 2-minute stage presence. It would have been most fitting to have the players felicitated by the first WC winning captain of the country. Instead, it was the jokers, Sinivasan and Shashank Manohar who were bestowed with the honours.

Kapil, Patil, Vengsarkar, Sandhu, Yashpal would have gone unnoticed had Salim Durrani not remembered them in his acceptance speech.

There was no dress code either. While some like Dhoni, Raina, et al. were sensible enough to show up in their blue blazers others like Munaf, Sehwag, Nehra went on stage in jeans and T-shirts/bush shirts.

Sad to see Cricket being so glorified and all other sports in India being grossly overlooked

Do we have a sports ministry !!

I am sure sports in india is managed just the way Air India was managed by Praful Patel and now the new ministers. Except for cricket where so much money can be made only if India wins

Thank god for that

I am an ardent cricket lover, yet I feel it is overdone

Dinesh and Shyam

you guys are the epitomy of typical Indian citizens who just talk and not act.

Why do other sports go unnoticed ? BECAUSE A TYPICAL INDIAN DOESN'T WATCH ANYTHING BUT CRICKET !!!!

Which is why cricket gets so much sponsors. What is the difference between DD channels and private ones ? The Private ones have more ads. Why do private one have more ads ? Because majority of the buying populace watch those channels !!

You see where I am going.

Now stop whining like small school girls and stop trying to act like nobility runs in your blood.

I do agree with you Dinesh.
I am too a prolific fan of cricket, but there is too much of everything in it. But what about the other sporting events??? It's sad to see the plight of participants in other sporting category when they are being ignored... some may critize this, but thats the TRUTH....

PS: Has anyone visited the SAI facilities for participants.....??? u would be in for a shock>?

Absolutely! Did not have the courtesy to acknowledge the 83 champs even once or the common sense of having Kapil get on stage and hand over the cheques to Dhoni et al.

BCCI chamchagiri

How long this will continue and I hope it comes to an end. Enough awards for Sachin for playing the game for records and not for the benefit of Indian cricket. Suggest Sachin starts giving a part of his income to the needy and poor. Possession of cars and properties is not going to help him, but you need to start charity with no conditions. Pay your taxes promptly (and do not ask for favors from customs.

if you know little bit of cricket you will not say this - even if sachin is out for 1 or 2 - he is able to judge field immediately and guides other fellow on that. This is reason in his absence it is difficult for others to win matches

For your information, I played cricket up to the District level. I am fully aware of the contributions made by other crickets to the Indian cricket. Certainly Sachin does not deserve to be in that list. His phenomenal records are of no use to the Indian team. See his score winning ratio is rather poor.
