indian team's overhaul
by Prem Sethi on Jul 27, 2011 11:28 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian team is reasonably good for twenty twenty, moderately good for one dayers but needs an overhaul for test matches. If bowlers develop cramps early in the match, get injured while fielding, catch fever or viral at the slightest change of climate, batsmen cant take quick runs ,your so called match winners ans best bowlers end the test match with just one wicket to show for their skills, fielders drop catches regularly etc.I am sure the selectors must sit up and have a long discussion on the composition of the team . It is time that our test team is drastically changed . Look at the way Australia has overhauled their team. We, too, need a surgical operation of the test team.

We need to be a little more sensible while assessing the team's performance . First Zaheer didn't have cramps , he had a hamstring strain . This can happen anytime to a bowler however fit he is . Injuries while fielding also cant be prevented . Viral fever is caused by a viral infection and not by a change in climate . As it is , the one person who wont be affected by a sudden change in climate is Sachin as he has been in England for more than a month now ( he went early ) Bhajji was a definite disappointment and Dhoni can no longer protect him with his "ball didn't spin"argument . Swann bowled much better than him . Eventually , it all came down to Zaheer's injury . At the time of his injury , India had the upper hand having removed the openers cheaply . With Praveen for support , India could have easily bowled out England for around 300-320 . Again , we had them at 62-5 in the second innings and if Zaheer was there to relieve Ishant , England won't have crossed 150 . I felt the batsmen did reasonably well . You can't ask for more from Mukund . Dravid was good . Laxman was ok thogh he threw away his wicket in both innings . Sachin was indisposed . Gambhir was average in the first innings but fought bravely with an injured elbow in the second . Dhoni was also average and got two good balls in both innings . Overall , Bhajji and Zaheer need to sit out the next test and Sreesanth and Munaf or Mishra needs to fill up the spots . I feel INDIA WILL

u seem like one of the few if not the only sensible guy on the rediff forum. People here seem to have one match memory...and they change their comments drasticly after every win or loss!!

Playing Eleven

We should have Dravid opening with Gambir and play Yuvraj in place of Abhinav. Gives us a better batsman and a good bowler option.

agree... Yuvi would be a better choice considering her has belted Stuart Broad as well...

Time has changed & tables have turned now.

Look how Stuart Broad improved after those 6x6 in Durban and look how Yuvraj struggling for test place.

LEt Raina open the innings and Dravid play at his usual No.3 spot. It will be fine.
