runner for batsman
by Sarangarajan TS on Jul 09, 2011 11:48 AM  | Hide replies

In all types of Cricket , difference of runs only decide the winner. That being the case, to provide a runner to a batsmen when "injured" is like giving a free ticket to a batsman so that he can concentrate only on batting and score runs when the others have to run to earn these runs.Concentration, physical and mental endurance are the key elements of batting apart from skill. If you just remove the physical portion of it by giving a runner, one is favoured no doubt. It is just a bogus concept which should have been discarded long ago especially after the way scores of batsmen had misused the rule.

First of all, Gauti, become fully fit, self-certification won't do. Pl don't resume playing without fully recovering. Greed will jeopardise your future.

There is no harm in day dreaming mate. You do it. But surprising that you want England to thrash us before Aussie do it.Since when Pommies have become dear to you.

Runnerfor the injured batsman
by Rama Gopalan on Jul 08, 2011 03:33 PM  | Hide replies

It is no use giving a runner for the seriously injured.
It is to be given for the minor injuries or cramps , subject to a certain limited overs; say 5 overs max.

If a batsman cannot run he can go and come back later after retirng...it is not correct to give a runner....
running is also part of batting...

Gambhir a victim of Sachin's greed
by Jaya S on Jul 08, 2011 03:26 PM  | Hide replies

if Sachin had dropped down the order, India would have won more games with Sehwag/Gambhir opening. That would have meant less 100s for the dwarf so he refused. Century before country and IPL before anything is the dwarf's motto.

I am amused by your thinking. Sachin and Sehwag have been around much longer and have done well together. Gambhir has a long cricketing life ahead and will do ahead. Don't worry just like Sidhu didn't affect Sachin's career, so will Sachin have any impact on Gambhir. Gambhir should learn to respect injuries and not just play for club and wealth if he has to stay long in the national side.

Many of Sachin's centuries have slowed India RR down and we lost. That's the line of my thinking and all sensible people will agree.

I believe the statement that you can " THINK" is highly debatable.

Just curious , what in your opinion is Sachin's strike Rate when he hits a century ?

die in piece!because you can't live in piece as long as sachin is playing and he has made it very clear that he has no plans to retire in near future! So since you can't live in piece, at least you die in the same!

It is more important to see if Sachin is playing well at No.2 or not rather than thinking about if he has taken the position of Gambir. Sachin has never dragged a game. Either he gets out quickly or goes on to score a 50/100 with a very good strike rate. So where is the problem? Viru and Sachin are No.1 and No.2 in ODIs and they are playing well. As long as it happens Gambir will only have less role/matches to play. But that is unavoidable. For the team, somebody, be it Sachin or Gambirhas to score. That only matters. Gambir gets his share of batting in Tests and T20s. The strength of Indian Team, it is a mix of experience as well as exuberance of youth. Sachin and Dravid are an integral part of the Experience that we need to do well abroad. So look at India as a team and Not at certain Individuals.
