Silly comment :

Morarji Desai:was an Indian independence activist and the Prime Minister of India from 1977–79. He was the first Indian Prime Minister who did not belong to the Indian National Congress. He is the only Indian to receive the highest civilian awards from both India and Pakistan, the Bharat Ratna and Nishaan-e-Pakistan.

By Desai's orders in 1960, a demonstration by the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti was fired upon by the police resulting in the deaths of 105 demonstrators. 105 demonstrators were killed in the incident leading to public outrage that shook the central government. The incident led to the formation of the present State of Maharashtra.

Morarji Desai was a true Gandhian follower, social worker, institution builder and a great reformer. He was the Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith (university established by Mahatma Gandhi). Even during his term as the Prime Minister he used to visit and stay at Vidyapith during the month of October. He exemplified simplicity and used to write post cards himself even when he held the office of Prime Minister. Sardar Patel deputed him to conduct meetings of farmers in Kaira district which finally led to the establishment of the AMUL Cooperative movement. During his rule, he withdrew intervention in Public Distribution System and rationing shops were literally lost due to cheap sugar and oil available in the market.

"Pandurang Vaman Kane, a great Sanskritist wedded to social reform, continued the earlier tradition of scholarship. His monumental work entitled the "History of the Dharmasastra", published in five volumes in the twentieth century, is an encyclopedia of ancient social laws and customs. This enables us to study the social processes in ancient India.
It was published in five volumes; the 1st volume was published in 1930 and the last, in 1962. It runs to a total of more than 6,500 pages. Dr. Kane used the resources available at prestigious institutes such as the Asiatic Society of Bombay and Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, among others. The work is known for its expanse and depth – ranging across diverse subjects such as the Mahabharat, Puranas and Kautilya – including references to previously obscure sources. The richness in the work is attributed to his in-depth knowledge of Sanskrit. His success is believed to be an outcome of his objective study of the texts instead of deifying them.

Rajiv increased government support for science and technology and associated industries, and reduced import quotas, taxes and tariffs on technology-based industries, especially computers, airlines, defence and telecommunications. He introduced measures significantly reducing the License Raj, allowing businesses and individuals to purchase capital, consumer goods and import without bureaucratic restrictions. In 1986, he announced a National Policy on Education to modernize and expand higher education programs across India. He founded the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya System in 1986 which is a Central government based institution that concentrates on the upliftment of the rural section of the society providing them free residential education from 6th till 12 grade. His efforts created MTNL in 1986, and his public call offices, better known as PCOs, helped spread telephones in rural areas.India's success in telecommunications, space research, information technology ...

Sachin is Bharat Ratna
by om shanti on Jan 25, 2011 06:30 PM  | Hide replies

So why he needs a government certificate ? He should tell that I am young now, after few years give this to me.But he knows, after few years of retirement,we thankless Indians will forget him,the way we forgot our yester-year heroes such as Dhyan Chand,Dhanraj Pillai,Kapil Dev,etc,etc...
Secondly the award matters more to his sponsors so that their brand ambassador becomes more saleable. There is no real patriotism,sirf,dikhawa...Sachin should say that first give to Dhyan Chand and other senior sports persons, you can consider me when I am around 60 years of age..

Dhyan Chand
by om shanti on Jan 25, 2011 06:23 PM

Today you are saying about cricket being a popular game, its too young in India, just emerged after 83 world cup. Before that hockey was Indian fan's hearth-throb.
If sports-man is to be awarded why ignore Dhyan Chand, who was a magician of hockey and India won consecutive olympic gold medals in hockey during his playing time (1928-1948).Ignoring the past is insulting our fore-fathers..

Sachin should get,but at a later stage, first we should honour Dhyan Chand although he was not brand ambassador of any company...

Why not tendulkar for the Bharat Ratna?
by nisha thoas on Jan 25, 2011 06:12 PM  | Hide replies

As usual a few guys, who have acheived 1/1000th of srt now claim he is underserving. And some of them are bringing out laughable statistics, and points out that he hasnt won any world cup. Its a team game remember?? If his team mates are inept, what can he do? And what exactly are the otehr reasons?? Bharat ratna, as the name shows, is someone who has done unparalleled service to the nation for long time. SRT is not some newbie, but been around for 22 years! CAn any sportman, across the globe say that?including federer, woods. And SRT has remained humble about it. And he is the one thanks to whom BCCI has become the richest cricket body. With all this in mind, SRT is the ONE for the award. In an age of scams, can you possibly give it to some politicians, or industrialists? Or media people? Or bollywood, where mediocre movies are made? Tendulkar is an easy choice, and we are all waiting for the day he walks up to recieve the award!

If Dr.APJ got bharat ratna, why keep Atal Jee behind? Come above party line and think about his contributions to India.

Yes,Sachin deserves Bharat Ratna. But not when it matters to sponsors, but after India wins world cup and after Sachin reaches 60 years of age..and prior to him,Major Dhyan Chand,Geet Sethi and Vishwanathan Anand deserves this award in the field of sports...

Tell me which guy was given this award before at the age of 37?

Dr Radha Krishnan did not have billion fans,Dr.C V Raman did not have billion fans,etc,etc..and as per your logic ,such genius personalities should not get Bharat Ratna if they donot have billion fans of a silly games played by 10 colonial nations ,wah, great thinking !

You just want to idolise british colonial slavery by awarding bharat ratna to a cricketer...

Yeah thats right , hatred for cricket is the main basis why you speak against sachin huh. if it is such an easy sport to play why dont u go and try it and become like sachin? why u abusing his field which is the most loves sport in india? and i compared him with likes of vishy , sethi n dhyan with respect to 1 billion fans , dont want to say anything about radha kirshna , or cv raman they were intellectuals /phsicians so for them popularity doesnt matter there contributon does

and about colonial slavery , we are living proof of it , talking in a language which is given to us by british , so imagine what a big slave u r , or start talking in hindi...... ur opinions dont matter man , because ur basically a cricket hater while cricket in india is a religion and sachin is a god.

who gives a rats ass about sethi is snooker or vishy in chess?

Look mate obviously Dhyan chand deserves it , i am myself a hockey fan , i tried to support Indian hockey in some events but after watching them lose and lose and lose , my interest began to dip , and after we failed to qualify for 2008 olympics , there was no point to follow hockey anymore , so i think it should be given to dhayn chand as india has won 8 gold medals in olympics , we did great things in hockey but u r mistaken a bit , hockey was never as popular as cricket is rite now , we have vishy doing well in chess as well but that doesnt mean india is a chess playing /watching nation , the team was predominantly full of punjabis and rajputs from UP ( among whom dhayn chand was 1) ,
And look if dhyan chand was alive today playing hockey , he wud have atleast in this era wud have endorsed some products , such things were absent in those days , now u see every sportsperson in the world they all endorse something or another , u must luk at tennis female stars they even pose in playboy magazines and lingerie adds, still they have huge fan following all over the world , money is a personal part of a sportsperson , it shudnt be used as something to criticize him ,
and remember just 2 months ago , sachin kicked away a 60 crores dela of endorsing liquor , saying he doesnt want to endorse anythign like tobacoo and daaru which cna have bad effect on youngsters , do make sure to see good things as well .

cheers jai hin
