Luxuries?
by Krishnakumar Narayanan on Jan 17, 2011 11:56 PM

With so many established part time spinners in the playing eleven (Yuvraj, Raina, Y Pathan and even Sehwag & Sachin), a third spinner in the 15-man squad is a big luxury. And having no back up for wicket keeper is the biggest risk. nehra IN and Sreesanth OUT - no comments.

You are right with the facts that sreesanth was given only two matches in India against NZ ODI series and has tally of 3 & 4 wickets. He never got any opportunity in the first two matches of SA series. Are we all fools to ignore these matters?

Sreesanth was the best right hand Indian fast bowler who played in SA. Let us hope he will recovery from this blow to help us more overseas tours victories

I am not blaming Zaheer, Praveen and munaf being in the side. But the inclusion of Nehra, Ashwin and also Piyush makes the matter surprising

I wish the team good luck and hope to see Sachin fulfill his dream of winning the world cup for the country. Truly god of cricket

Sreesanth: India being one of the countries, which has many professionals, but does not even, has the capability to control the match winner to behave properly in cricket field. Then We are still under developed country in every sense. I will surely watch him bowl at SA, AUS, PAK & Eng team as he is one among the true passionate cricketers like Saurav, sachin, kapil and name few

I feel we have just dropped the world cup!!!!!!

Still we will WIN, we want to win it

Job Security for Dhoni
by Akash Nair on Jan 17, 2011 11:47 PM  | Hide replies

While kicking out Rohit Sharma was long overdue it is baffling why Piyush Chawla was included. When was the last time he played? Dhoni is not doing anything with the bat anymore. He wicketkeeping is average at best after the finger injury which he still carries. Given that Parthiv Patel or Robin Uthappa should have been included who can both keep wicket as good if not better than Dhoni and certainly bat far better.

ABHIJIT ROY
Piyush and Sreesanth
by ABHIJIT ROY on Jan 17, 2011 11:40 PM

I don't know how Piyush Chawla impressed the selectors? Dhoni always liked him, but why didn't he play for for the last 18 months?
If Parthiv is not to be picked why was send to replace Sachin?
Why a genuine wicket-taker and hence a match winner in Sreesanth not picked?
Dhoni is known for his dislike for Sreesanth. It is his inefficiency that he cant' manage a temperamental match-winner. Why doesn't he learn from Ganguly to nurture an manage match-winner?
If something goes wrong Srikant and Dhoni should be answerable.

Ojha shd be there instead of Piyush
by Ramesh on Jan 17, 2011 11:36 PM

Not sure why Ojha was omitted. he was so effective in 20-20 and ODIs. Ojha would have supported Harbhajan or even exceeded him in certain conditions. Another big question, Tendulker!! looking at his form, is he still needed for ODIs?

Selection
by Bada Bhai on Jan 17, 2011 11:32 PM  | Hide replies

I am not being biased nor do not want to rake up the North-South issue. I am just putting forth an opnion based on assessment of performance. I guess Nehra and Sreesanth have been consistent in leaking runs, giving away extras and getting hammered all around the park. Nehra’s physical fitness status was always in question and so is Sreesanth’s temperament. Both are talented and can be dangerous on their day.
I would say going by some of the recent games and also in the past, Sreesanth has more killer instinct, natural aggression and the zest to win when compared to Nehra who is not in a so-good form recently. Anyway keeping this fact aside, I guess Sreesanth’s inclusion in the ODI team may not have been a very bad decision considering the fact that Nehra can also be equally expensive on sub-continent pitches. Many players in Indian team are known for their bad temeparment, including Harbhajan and Gambhir ..then how come Sreesanth is singled out for bad temperament. What made him lose favour? Is it that the selectors have been unfair to him..or it issomething else? Sreesanth has got us some of most needed wickets in desperate situations and I can’t quote many for Nehra. Thus Sreesanth’s inclusion (still possible considering the present bowler's fitness of the) might actually prove beneficial and in some cases a fortune for the team. Anyway still the matters rest with selectors and we as fans can only put

in batting too... sreesanth knows how tohold a bat beeter than nehra... and munaf. all the matches can not win by top oredr or middle order batsman..many matches will be seen with no: 9 or 10 batsman with 10 runs to score.this is a big evidence in 1992 wc onwards.. with munaf, nehra and zak india cant scoe even 5 runs when they need against top teams.imp point is nobody i can see a s a pivotal role playing how dravid played in 2003 wc, arjuna ranatunga for 1996wc, Border in 1987Wc and martincrow in 1992wc. if Indian Top order have OFfday, that is the end of the road for the wc campaign..

Baffling Selections
by MeetFireWithFire on Jan 17, 2011 11:27 PM

1) Ashish Nehra: Most unfit Indian cricketer of all time. Of-late lost form as well. If he is chosen in the playing 11, is he potent enough to complete his quota of 10 overs? Even under South African conditions (which favors fast bowling), his economy is more than 6. Merit has gone for a toss in BCCI (as usual).

Indian fast bowling options are now looking pathetic, if Zaheer Khan is out of the equation.

India at best has the following bowling options that could potentially complete their quota.
      a) Zaheer Khan
      b) Pravin Kumar
      c) Harbhajan

Considering the form of Nehra, India would be relying on part timers for 20 overs in sub-continental conditions.

2) Piyush Chawla: Does not stand any chance in the playing 11. His selection is not quite convincing as one would have liked an extra keeper or a batsmen (who could bowl) would be a safer bet.

Sreesanth deserved a place in the 15 member squad. He could be really effective against some teams, if not all. Sad...

by samir sahu on Jan 17, 2011 11:20 PM

Another notable omission is ojha. I never expected the great srikanth to be so biased (or blind ) to the talent and performance of ojha whom I think is a tremendous bowler (even better than harbhajan. Dhoni has been always been a partial persom
