Australias Cricket Legacy
by Dev Kumar on Jan 10, 2011 10:01 PM

The old King & lion will be overthrown by a young one's. The empire and poverty will never be one it always fades out. So is Autralia's cricket, when you an egoistic and proud leader who thinks he is the best and no one else there is someone to pull you down. The time is gone as it winter there is no more rain in winter so is your fate in cricket mind it Australia,,,,,

Inadequate Preparation
by Ashok Kumar on Jan 10, 2011 02:28 PM  | Hide replies

I would attribute their failure to lack of preparation aginst an In-form English Team. Aussies are known for planning against the weak points of the touring team's key players. The tour India only added to their under preparedness. More so, their bowlers were going through some demoralising periods after being mauled by India in India. Give the Aussies 6 months time and good thinking coach. They will sure come up, if not to the top. For the No.1 position, anyway India, SA, England and Srilanka would be strong contenders. Aussies need to show that they could beat 2 of the above 4 teams in a convincing manner to raise above their current ranking. In my guess, it should happen in a year's time. They will raise far more quickly than the WIs who are still going through a poor phase for more than a decade now.

WHY NOW
by madanmohan siddhanthi on Jan 10, 2011 02:21 PM  | Hide replies

When they were winning every one was raising the structure of CA to the sky. Now when they lose they want everything to be reinvented .
The fact one should recognise is when you have some great players - the budding talen withers -as these people are there for ages - you will see the same case in India when we lose ST,VVS ,RD and Zaheer .We will keep losing all the time.It takes time to build a team it does not happen- like a miracle.

True, India will also go through that phase. But what Ponting is pointing is that the system's (CA's) ability to produce quality players consistently. Somewhere with the current list of players performing at reasonably good levels, CA had failed in its main role of producing talent. Otherwise, How do you take the main spinner, beer, calling himeself not prepared for test cricket? Adding to that for some reasons, CA had kept out players with good ability like Hauritz, MCGill, Stuart Clark. Even if we say Billinger, Harris, Hilfenhas to be equally good, their batting department is really struggling against good seam and swing bowlers. They seemed to be good only against genuine pace bowlers like WI has. Aus need a strategic change in the way they identify and groom talent. That is precisely Pointing is talking about.

I remember in one interview Shane Warne said that all other teams have copied cricket from Australia. Now they have caught up and gone ahead of them... If one should agree Warne's comments, then your comment -"Aus need a strategic change in the way they identify and groom talent" - negates what Warne said.

Australia will be a top side again in 2-3 years time. They have a good domestic set up though they might be able to dominate like they did in the last decade.

What is wrong with Australia
by ASHOK IYER on Jan 10, 2011 01:10 PM

Unlike other countries, the shell life of cricketers is short in Australia. This happens mainly due to the fact that many of the players are called in to do the national job at a later age. they were successful till now. But when other countries began to tap professionals with a younger blood and enthusiasm, the oldies have no chance.
Ponting is correct in one way because they have to look for club cricket to get the new breed.

We're not producing enough high quality Test cricketers
by ravisankar S on Jan 10, 2011 01:04 PM  | Hide replies

I agree with Ponting's views. Captain is as good as the team as a whole. If one fails another should come up. If everyone fails, the team fails irrespective of the captain.
In Australia's case, this is exactly what is happening for the last two years with whatever combinations tries on field.
Of course, Ponting's form is also poor now. As a captain, he is as good as his form itself.
Australis continued to waste tme in pointing at ponting rather than finding the quality in players internally.

Thanks
S Ravisankar

The Captain looks far better when they win .Take the case of MSD .All the accolades he gets - his contribution is very negligible .Any day I rate SG a far superior captain.
