Why such a fuss
by Sameer K on Jan 09, 2011 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

IPL is business and if a owner feels sum1 is a burden then why shud be buy the player.

Everyone knows Ganguly was not retained due to the problems he creates in the team. If he is bought by a franchise then he shud be made the captain, if he is not the captain he does a cry baby in media telling lies like he did when he was removed from KKR captaincy, he went on to say that he was not informed that he will not captain KKR in second edition. Immediately after this came in media, Buchanan clarified that not only he but even SRK had told him he would not be a captain and after this clarification, Ganguly did not utter a word about this. But created problems in the team. Also his playing dot balls created problems for batsmen at the crease and to follow.

Whats the use if a cricketer is not a team player? Why would any franchise want a egoist player inside their dressing room.

Every cricket player has to leave some time, some are earrly some soon.
Sometimes, it is not fair. But it is true that Ganguly is a legend of Bengal and he will be a lengend for the state.

Sourav Ganguly's omission did not fly in the face of cricketing logic, but it's likely to be the most controversial one. Keeping the controvery aside, from a cricketing stand-point, Ganguly's overall strike-rate during the last IPL - which was his best with the bat - was a very low 117.66 (run-rate - 7.06). He did score a lot of runs, but scoring runs is never independent of the speed of scoring in Twenty20 cricket, and having aged a year and being retired, it was always going to be tough for Ganguly to get picked. Moreover, he had raised his base price to the highest bracket of USD 400,000 and no franchise was willing to spend that much on what was at best a risky investement.

Even amongst the runs he made in 2010, against quality bowling attacks he found the going tough. In the initial match against Mumbai, he made 31 off 34 balls - snail's pace in T20 cricket, while in the return match, with Mumbai resting Zaheer, Harbhajan and Malinga, he made 42 off 36. Against the Bangalore attack of Steyn, Kallis, Kumble and co, he made 23 off 22 and 33 off 32. Against Chennai when they had Bollinger, Ashwin and Murali he made 10 off 12. The fact is, those kind of strike-rates at the top of the order will harm team's chances of victory, even if runs are scored.

by India on Jan 09, 2011 02:52 PM  | Hide replies

I do not need to remind that shameful Indians

were no doubt ruled by foreigners for 1000

years!! Coward and corrupt Indians for sure

would behave like slaves...

Sourav not selected because he made India reach

world cup Finals in 2003

Kapil was removed as captain one year after

1983 as he won us the world cup...

we humiliate heros and reward the devils

Azharuddin was rewarded with 10 yrs of

captaincy because he failed India in all world

cup to reach beyond 2nd stage and above all he

was traior and fixer...

It is never about cricket
by Krishna on Jan 09, 2011 02:44 PM

It is always about power, money and politics. Be happy with what you are getting, do not challange us. Or you shall suffer. Same thing happened to Kapil Dev also.

by Ratheesh Reddy on Jan 09, 2011 02:35 PM

It is personal egos of the players such as Ganguly and Yuvraj which is hurting themselves. They have to realize sooner than later.

Why so much of Hue and Cry
by Krishna on Jan 09, 2011 02:26 PM

Sharad Pawar, in spite of being the BCCI president, not a single bid for him. In fact he was not in the offer table knowing very well that there will be no taker!! Who wants a Z-shaped batsman in his team?

117 strike rate vs all the flops in KKR
by Avijit Chowdhury on Jan 09, 2011 01:55 PM

The whole KKR team could not perform in the last season... the only guy who managed something respectful is being abandoned... Stk rate of 117!!!... no other batsmen were scoring.. let alone scoring at a faster pace...!! the only guy who was batting with some purpose is being left out... idiotic policy on part of KKR management.. will lose half the popularity in Kolkata...

Dada left out in the 1st day's bid
by Haridas Nair on Jan 09, 2011 01:14 PM

It is indeed very sorry figure that the person who made Indian Cricket as Team India (earlier it was 11 players with 11 directions) treated much bad. Even last IPL session he scored much better. KKR should have given some respect and would have told him that they are not going to bid him. Now I wonder what will be the KKR viewership and the crown in Calcutta without Ganguly. KKR loosing the local support very badly
