when that time comes you will retire as england's most successfull cricket captain.
the way you give post match interviews are also very honest and good.
here in india we have a dumb captain, dhoni, whose interviews are like a baniya who repeats the same same shit. sometimes he does not even attent post match conferences.
hats off to u strauss.
2011 cricket world cup- my heart says india but my mind says england. this time england will win the world cup.

So you think skill of giving good post match inter views is necessary to become captain of the team

I think bcci team shoul sack dhoni immediately and appoint bhajji as captain

Point of no return- Ponting!
by sumie beg on Jan 07, 2011 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

It's not sad- it's a matter of arrogance. No offense, but Mr. Ponting is the worst captains of the world. He used ex-players like McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist to make his name in fame. He argues with every captain, even Warne! Even a new captain will find it difficult to fill the void where you have new kangaroos except Watson & Hussey.

I think all captains try to get a good team together. If you have seen exceptions, happy to discuss.

If Ponting was the worst captains of the world, Clarke should have at least drawn the Sydney test. Australia conceded the maximum runs in this match.

You may not like Ponting that's a different story. But this whole "arrogance" business (instead of conceding that this was one of the most novice teams ever to wear baggy greens) makes for very interesting reading; coz the Aussies were actually at their most "so called" arrogant when they were winning; and Ponting wasn't even the loudest one... :)

gm shammi true though i hate them for their cheating but they were major force in the game of cricket...
they way they introduce 4 rpo in test was the highlight of their supremacy confidence and arrogance...
and i m missing this quality in no 1 and 2 team in the world...

Difference
by Abhijit Nair on Jan 07, 2011 10:11 AM  | Hide replies

Difference b/w India as 1 and AUS & WI as 1:
Aus used to thrash SA (2nd rank then ) 6-0 or 5-1 or 5-0 in test series home and away combined(2001-02 2005-06 seasons etc) when Aus were no1.
India are happy with a draw when SA were 130/6 then let go a golden chance to crush those arrogant SA players

Nair:

That's the difference between a Number one team and a Dominant Team such as the Waugh outfit and the Ponting outfit (prior to 2008).

But the game has certainly become more competitive..

During WI era as you pointed out SA wasn't even playing due to apartheid, Sri Lanka was considered lowlier even than today's Bangladesh and Kenya; India was nowhere near a world figure; Pakistan too wasn't a major figure either..

AND there was no ICC ranking system to tell us whether there was a difference of 2 points or 7 between #1 and #2 and so on... :)

Today they are THAT close... even the so-called minnows NZ, Pakistan and (increasingly) Australia are not like the erstwhile minnows I mentioned...

So naturally Whitewashes will stop becoming the norm very soon.... not to mention due to increasingly inherent inconsistencies in the teams...

Good reply.
Not a white wash we hope from our No. 1 team.
We could have chased the total in a fitting way like (the above mentioned mighty teams would have played) a No. 1 unit
Was it so difficult to play Harris? He had 19 maiden overs of 30 bowled.

Great
by Abhijit Nair on Jan 07, 2011 10:04 AM

England have the best bowling attack in the world according to Ian Chappell and he in all probability is right.Just after the match was over Chappell rated England as best bowling attack way ahead of India and SA.
The only doubt for me
at Chappell got it wrong may be that Eng attack have not been able to win a test series in India
Swann and Anderson will do well in India may be Tremlett and Finn can do a decent job but not sure of Bresnan who according to Bill Lawry is a bowler more suited to English conditions, SCG and MCG there was swing so he was successful.
England can be no.1 provided they do all the great work done in Australia elsewhere as well

Aussies are zeros

After the retirement of the fentastic four, Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hadden, Symonds and Mc Grath, who were dominant in Aussies cricket, they are now heading to garbage. They were the real match winners for Aussies all these years, which none can ignore..

Bhandu:

With all due respects to the Fab 4 and appreciating your rating of these former greats, I beg to differ with you.

If they indeed were Zeros then throughout last year, their win against all other teams except India in India (in which we came dagerously close to losing Mohali) and England in England would prove that those other teams were in Negative? Including South Africa in South Africa?

Once again, I agree that departure of those Fab four and more (like Warne, who you forgot for some strange reason; Langer; Bevan etc.) have considerably weakened them but they will regroup.

As will we when our Fab Three will bid adieu at some point in time...

Every country would go through this phase... If for India its Fab 4 0r 3 then for Eng Strauss, Jimmy Anderson(remember he was mediocre bowler when he started), KP and for SA if Jacque kallis quits and so on and so forth... to get replacements is not like replacing the bad part of a TV with a New component... mind you
