Field umpires are not required
by chirag foryou on Jan 07, 2011 09:41 AM

In 21st century, field umpires are not required. Only technology, third umpire and match referee can do job fault less.

BCCI is right...
by Bingo on Jan 07, 2011 09:41 AM

We have witnessed application of Hot spot technology in last test in sydney. Ian bell clearly nicked tha ball but hot spot did not support it and he survives...
The same thing with Hawk eye technology....hawkeye hold the line it does not cover the swing....i think decision should be kept to field umpires...although they can make amistake as technology can...

under performance is the easiest way to fix. what stops a player from throwing his wicket, while making it look genuine ?

100% agreed with your logic.

But I still don't agree with BCCI to not agree to UDRS. By the same logic we should withdraw from the World Cup too, then... :)

think from the BCCI's point of view. How can they then b-r-i-b-e the umpires for a favourable decision.

Keep LBW's Out

Keep LBW's Out of the review system except for Inside-edge appeal by batsman. Then everyone will approve the system.

I have a better idea.... Keep both the UDRS and Umpires out of the total system.... THEN everyone will approve it wholeheartedly... ;-)

Because the system is intended to get rid of OBVIOUS mistakes. But less often the captains are using for that purpose. Whenever there is a 50-50 shout for LBW of crucial batsman, the review is used just for a hope.

SH:

The number of reviews has been limited for THAT very purpose... No team can go beyond 2 such unsuccessful reviews - as we discovered to our great disadvantage in Sri Lanka...

Which is probably why we are not agreeing to the system. But that's not the system's fault; as you very rightly pointed out... :)

BCCI showing double-standards....
by Common Man on Jan 06, 2011 11:00 PM  | Hide replies

While BCCI opposed UDRS for the SA series, it will have to use it during the ICC WC next month. This is sheer hypocrisy by the richest cricket admin body in the world ? If a technology is available to review on-field umpire decisions why not use it ? After all it's similar to the referral to 3rd umpire which is in use already. So much for transparency !!

3rd umpire system does not track the movement of the ball you fool, it only shows us "slow motion" decisions, which are only helpful in case of run outs, stump outs or on field catches...

;-)... so you just "invented" that UDRS will NOT be used in the Quarters, Semis and the Finals in ICC World Cup? :)

At least don't put your "knowledge" of the game of cricket so blatantly out in the open... :)

Nice to know that Test matches are NOT ICC events, and that India does NOT actually hold the #1 ICC Test team spot according to YOUR common sense... :)

Well, World Cup is an ICC event and if ICC decided to use it, they obviously can," said Srinivasan, also the BCCI president-elect.
I hope it is clear now!

we can approve UDRS slowly
by wizardo id on Jan 06, 2011 10:54 PM  | Hide replies

review the process. UDRS seems to be in the right direction.

we'll use it after they improve the whole tech. its still raw now. especially the lbw and hawkeye.

clarke and smith are shouting only when it hurts them. they claim as if they've lost the series because of a decision or tow. trivializing their own inadequacies.

why have umpires on the field at all if UDRS solves all the prblems ? why have it for 2-3 calls by each team ? what happens if the teams get it wrong, and then they have some grave injustice happening after that ? the laws are stupid right now. if UDRS applies let it be for ALL decisions, and we'll get rid of the umpires on field.

Whatever was supposed to be done has already been done. There is no need to review or anything. No system is 100% accurate. Srinivas is an idiot. Are the umpires 100% foolproof? Come man. Don't be ridiculous. The UDRS is always better than the umpires - and slowly should be used for ALL decisions, because truth can and should never be restricted..

The BCCI is just interested in showing off its clout to the cricketing world. Are all the other boards fools to have implemented the UDRS?
