to all those who think kohli's pay is 1.8 million
by Bharani on Jan 05, 2011 10:19 PM

just because Bangalore retained Kohli, it does not mean that Kohli's pay is 1.8 million. 1.8 million will be deducted from Bangalore's cap.The pay for kohli will negotiated and agreed between the two parties.

reducing crime through soft ball cricket
by Devdutt Nayak on Jan 05, 2011 10:24 AM  | Hide replies

He knows exactly how tough it is for most youngsters to convince their parents to allow playing with a hard ball.

Kumble must help start a tennis ball cricket tournament for local cricketers.

You can crack as many jokes about soft balls - mine yours and everyone else's, but the fact remains that as long cricket is such a craze, other sports will not get so much money or attention.

To be very frank, eve though I praise and admire Sachin more than many, as long as he, Dravid, Laxman, Bhajji are playing, nobody will turn away from cricket to other sports.

That means advertisers wont pay for other sportsmen.

So if you want to remove more people out of poverty through sports, you need to literally play a different ball game.

All those unemployed youth out there who create problems in society - extortion, drugs, gangs, politician's goondas, all those youth, as also the much hated overpopulated Muslim youth, will get a respectable way of earning income.

A couple of years ago, Ishant Sharma advertised a T10 tournament in Mumbai. But it has not got any wider coverage in the mainstream media.

The time for this inclusive kind of cricket is *long overdue*.
Everyone does not get access to hard ball, nets, grounds, grassy lawns, expensive shoes and so on.

This is also a serious antidote to communal tensions.

SS and MNS are already organising soft ball cricket matches. "Secular" Congress leaders please take note.

Read slowly.
Think about NBA.
Think about Australian love for sports.
Think about English cricket and football clubs (but remember India's poverty and India's poor physical abilities in football)

Think about uneducated Muslim youngsters on the streets of Mumbai. Youngsters in gangs, up to no good.
Think about why poor Hindus and Muslims have more kids (ans: to earn some more income to add to the family)
Think about immigration into cities and what results from it.

Then think about what prevents more people from playing cricket.

Think about the problems faced by kids who want to get batting practice or bowling practice.

Humble
by King on Jan 05, 2011 03:27 AM

Mr.Kumble is Mr.Humble. A stalwart of Indian cricket. He was not naturally gifted like Chandrashekar or Warne, but he more than made it up with true grit & 'thinking out' the batsman.

I still cannot believe his guts when he came out to bat with a fractured jaw in Windies. That's commitment for you.

Glad to hear he is making money elsewhere & not in this gobbledy gook T20.

in all 3 ipls we have seen how youngsters have played stellar roles for their teams. would any team bank on someone like kumble - consider his age, fielding, batting ? i guess kumble is smart chap, its better to sit out than be disgraced by not being selected.

wait , the top bowler for 2 consecutive years not retained by RCB = read between lines ?

are you saying that the CEO of RCB is a cricket pundit and knows everything there is to know about cricket ?

Oh wait, you are basing your judgement on action of a businessman ? NICE GOING

It doesn't matter, keep watching more saas bhi bahu thi serials from your armchair

Cool dude

yeah whatever keeps your boat floating

The same businessman consulted experts for IPL1 and we know what happened
The same businessman put Kevin petersen in charge and we know what happened

Kumble got the difficult job in IPL2 when the team was down in the dumps like IPL1.

Once he took over, RCB became a different force to contend with.

You guys have no class, no talent and no money. Hence you always look to belittle others , just so that you feel better in some weird way.

$400,000 for the best of bowler in the previous 2 IPL's and decent performance in the challengers trophy is peanuts to be honest.

He would have been picked in any team.
Mallya probably didn't want to retain him for $180,000 when he wasn't sure if Kumble would play for the next 3 years.

Kumble can walk into any IPL team, no doubt about it. Just look at the competetion. The oldies are doing better that youngsters in T20 which is supposed to be a youngsters forte

The Right Thing....
by Kaka on Jan 04, 2011 08:34 PM  | Hide replies

The Jumbo bows out!! Anil Kumble bowed out at the right time. He has many things other than cricket on his hand. He has won recently a high post to Karnataka cricket association and also was appointed as NCA Chief.

He was a great bowler and had been a wonderful servant of not just India but also the game. But i feel Erapalli Prasanna was the greatest spinner from Karnataka, even though he far took less wickets thAN kUMBLE. Pras was a magical bowler who tormented great batsmen in hus heydays and was a master on any track.

These are modern superstitions. Youth play well, agreesive players are selfless, Slow players are Class players and many more.
If we watch IPL's there were Kumble's, Gilchrists, Kallis, Tendulkar and many seniors who did wonderful jobs. We also saw youngsters who did well. But there are many youngsters and veterans who failed.
We need to just see the performance and judge rather than looking at some generic opinions and prejudices.

irrespective of how he has performed in IPL, everyone knows this is a game of youngsters. which team would have taken him. smart thing anil did, by opting out, it would have been disgracing had he gone through the auctions, as this is not cricket.this is ipl.and the business mean business. past 3 ipls have shown that only youngsters have performed consistently.

see how ipl auctions - except for sachin no other senior is going to get a good deal. seniors have been good but in patches. gilchrist scored well in a match, so kumble did ine a match or two. but consistent performances have been by people like raina, vijay, kohli, pollard, all youngsters.be practical not emotional.

I haven't seen much of Kumble in One day Internationals but saw him in Test match India vs. Australia, 2004 in India- where he stiked the Oz like 9 pins. Okay he maybe hyped as the Indian media do but look at the IPL. His actions as a bowler speaks louder than his words as a captain!

He took his team to 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Now, not being retained, why would he play outside his city? It's like not playing for your country and for some other foreign country! Does his pay ($400,000) has to be under Virat Kohli (1,800,000)so many years junior of him?
This is full of crap! Mallya is selfish and shameless- he will suffer badly!
Comments are welcome but no offense please!

by Marathi Power on Jan 04, 2011 06:54 PM

Mallya father & son are one hell of idiots. They should have retained Kumble, his wise captaincy made RCB perform better in last 2 editions of IPL.

Without Anil Kumble, RCB will struggle again.
However, gentleman Kumble have setup ideal examples for other senior cricketers to follow.
